You might be able to install a mouse to joystick emulator like vJoy to be able to play with mouse.

Was reflected in the choice of hardware, as well. Damn: just because it is 2016 an the hardware you can buy finally caught up to "decent" level does not mean most new folks buy wheels first and then proceed to try out every driving-game there is. As a way of getting your feet wet, mouse-steering is a very good idea, since mice and keyboards are still required peripherals attached to every personal computer sold today. Thus anyone can have a go.
