Metro 2033 vs Metro Last Light

Which do you think is better, and why?

I'm actually disappointed to say that Metro 2033 is much better than it's sequel; I'd had faith that 4A Games would improve upon the previous title, but honestly I just feel like I'm playing something that's dumbed down and not nearly the same quality as the original. I've only played a bit of Last Light and thus far I'm unimpressed; Ranger Hardcore is too easy, the graphics aren't as good, the gameplay just doesn't feel the same (I don't really know how to describe it), the AI is dumb.

With all that said, LL isn't a bad game. It just hasn't appealed to me as much as 2033 did. Just my opinion. :)

I think both games are excellent overall and everybody should play both! From my pov, their largest differences are in those two areas that i mentioned.

LL hands down if you have to choose. 2033 was an awsome game but LL took all of the hiccups from 2033 and polished them to make a diamond of a game.

I think Metro 2033 is the superior game but only on two accounts. One being difficulty (2033 was MUCH harder for me to beat on ranger hard mode than LL was) and the other being story and atmosphere.

2033 was much more immersive in my opinion. The world was very bleak, it was almost like you felt that even if you succeeded in your mission that it wouldn't matter, people will still be living in a dying, unpleasant environment. The music was great too and really added to the atmosphere of the game. Last Light felt like it took a more "normal" actiony approach. The world was cool and some of the levels were pretty atmospheric but overall it just didn't drag me in like it did with 2033. The world just felt more alive in Last Light (usually a good thing in games, but not in this sense). It didn't have that dark feeling 2033 had. Last light even had strippers in it! I'm all for boobies and butts and sexy chicks and all that but come on lol. They were so oversexualized as hell it was impossible to remind yourself of the world you're in.

When it comes to gameplay though I think LL has 2033 beat. The stealth mechanic was much better (still needed work, AI was too dumb and blind) and the gunplay was more responsive. Also graphically the game was much better and ran better too.

I think when the 2033 redux is released though it will be trouble for Last Light. Not that LL is a bad game or anything but combine LL's mechanics and graphics with 2033's plot and atmosphere and you've got a recipe for a masterpiece.

It's not a mistake. Metro 2033 is way too hard. Not everyone enjoys shooting a monster 1000 times to kill it. Not everyone enjoys seeing their character die every 5 seconds.

Of course, the world of Metro Last Light is less less depressing than the world of Metro 2033. Remember the ending of Metro 2033?

Depends on what you like in games. Metro 2033 is more challenging and dark, like a survival horror game. Metro Last Light is easier and less dark like an action game.
