What does Ranger Mode do exactly?
I have a general overview of what ranger mode does, such as hiding the hud, making enemies smarter... but does anyone have a specific list of what it actually does?

So I'll post the stuff I know so far:
- HUD removed.
- Smarter enemy AI.

But, what else? I'm absolutely thrilled about fighting smarter enemies, but I do kind'a hate fighting on a difficulty where the only difference is "Hey, let's give enemy X 1000 moar health to create an artifical difficulty", which I hope won't be the case :(

That pretty much is the case.
HUD is removed, enemies are smarter - you take more damage. Your ammo is lost if you do a safe reload.. Still the same crap almost.

Um... does the partially used clip fall on the ground where you reloaded, or does the ammo actually just vanish?

It makes it a whole lot harded, but not for reasons that are good.

I started my first playthrough of Ranger hardcore mode because it said you can play it if you're experienced at metro, however it covers up some stuff that is essential to play the game.

The game features some kind of weapon select button that does not show up in ranger mode, leaving you having to guess what throwing weapon you've selected. There seems to be no way to see how much ammo you have ( you could in 2033 by bringing up your journal) and it also seems to cover up the quick time event messages.

I can understand covering up the HUD always for immersion, but what they seem to have done is just disabled all overlays. So Ranger mode pretty much makes the game harder by breaking it at the moment.

No HUD.

Where does it say the enemies are smarter? I thought they were just tougher and hit harder (or you were weaker).

Hmm, isn't that what it says on the Steam Page?

From the Steam DLC page:

Become completely immersed in the world of Metro. Ranger Mode offers Metro veterans the ultimate challenge; the HUD is removed for increased immersion, all resources including ammunition, filters and medkits are more scarce, and combat becomes even deadlier as both you and your enemies cause more damage. With the purchase of the Ranger Pack you will also receive additional 100 Military Grade Bullets in Ranger Mode so you can quickly customise your arsenal to suit your play style. Also included is the Ranger approved AKSU, a compact but deadly Russian assault rifle, perfect for claustrophobic combat.

Again, where does it say "smarter"?

Just increasing damage (and perhaps decreasing how much damage you can take) is not smarter.

Hmm if you can't bring up the weapon overlay it would make it much harder to play with a controller. Might have to use keyboard binds to switch throwing weapons, pump pressurized guns, recharge flashlight, change ammo...

I played it on Ranger Hardcore for the first time. It's pretty easy to be honest. The TAB option thats invisible makes sense, every chosen weapon has it's own sound. It's all pretty simple, but people don't want to give it a try. Everyone expects games to be like interactive movies, but they're not. Stop being a f***ing noob.
