Air Filter cheat
It's not exactly a cheat but it's a great work around for that annoying swamp level.

If you're low on air filters, take off your gas mask and put it back on when you're about to lose consciousness. Repeat this process. It'll greatly extend the duration of those pesky filters.

Does this actually work?

How could somebody run out? It never happened to me, neither on easy nor on hardcore. I usually have around 30-45 minutes, or more. Just search, there are tons of them everywhere. In this game you have to look around for ammo and filters, not just go and shoot( this is not COD :D )...

Well, I made a mistake thinking I had plentiful so I ran out really quickly by speeding through the game. I was stuck on the swamp boss right before entering the church with only 30 or so seconds. The method I mentioned saved my butt and I'm hoping it'll help others with the same predicament.

There's the problem right there. This game is never meant to be "sped through" like your average COD.
The problem is the misinformation from Pavel and Khan's dialogue to buy filters which you CANNOT buy them. That's what made me overconfident to speedrun through the levels.

4A Games should've made Metro Last Light like it's predecessor, Metro 2033, and allow players to buy the filters. It takes about 30-40 minutes to fix that. I don't understand why they left it as it is...

when I got the dark one following me he found about 30 minuts of air for me when I was already at 20 some minunuts, after that point i never dropped below 50 minuts of air filters and I found air filters CONSTANTLY. At one point I even had 58 minuts and some odd seconds of air so.... filters are easy to come by if you actually just look and dont rush past everything.

Despite the fact that you could only buy filters before the end of chapter 2 out of 7 in 2033? (And having at least four scenes of extended surface time after: Dead City, Outpost, Library and Ostankano (I think that's how you spell it) Tower.)

And as said by others, if you speed through you'll miss the filters you can normally find. I've been playing the game fairly normally and been at 10+ minutes constantly.

Yeah I just died without air - right after a checkpoint after polis with no filters around (and no time to search for any, not even 10 seconds). I never even knew that could happen so I never really worried about filters... well I guess that's another game I will not finish (and I won't buy the sequels either, obviously).

Thats an old trick from 2033, just keep taking your gasmask off and on until your in the clear.

And if your having trouble finding air filters, your playing the game wrong

I'm gonna assume for your benefit that you own it on console. That being said I'd recommend trying again some day.

Unfortunately, I play PC... I really like the game for its great graphics and atmosphere, but that experience was kind of frustrating.

Restart a previous chapter if you have to, it's THAT simple.

Guess certain players do give up easily.

I reloaded from polis. Could not find a filter there either. Tried a few times and then decided it's not worth my time, I am not going to reload an earlier point.
Actually I usually don't give up easily. I always try to finish the game, but when the game is too frustrating, it just stops being fun. I am doing this for fun, you know.

been there, died there...

gets bad just reload the chapter from main menu, cuz i tried what you're talking about and didn't really work that well & if ya get in a fight forget it.

but ya know what's really wierd is when i played thru same place on ranger hard mode, no problem at all, no shortage of filters, at all. lol

I didn't rush past ANYTHING in the game and now I'm stuck at the swamp boss because I HAVE NO MORE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AIR.
