Re-mastering versions of both games
Solid Gamer May 22, 2014 @ 12:03pm
Remastering? What does that mean? Complete new game (levels, story) or just graphical pimp up and directors cuts?
Redux is actually Russian for cash-grab.

They're porting the games to xbox one and ps4 with an improved engine, graphics, and a bunch of other things. They're releasing it on steam as well, they're half off if you own either game.

Save your judgement, there may be more to this than meets the eye.

4A completed the game for THQ in extremely bad conditions mostly due to their location, but partly due to THQ knowing they were a sinking ship. Pre-bankruptcy THQ had 4A set the game up to be released with DLC(ranger mode) something that angered and insulted a lot of people. THQ went bankrupt and Last Light went into limbo until Deep Silver bought em. They released the game as it was because development was over and took the blame for the DLC and bad AI because it was already done.

The Redux is likely Deep Silver and 4A fixing a lot of the bugs, glitches, and DLC garbage they had to put up with THQ forcing on 4A originally. I for one have no problem supporting 4A and Deep Silver since they have not wronged me yet, also they saved 4A from some pretty terrible companies at the bidding.

Now people seem to be crying a river because it will cost $12.49 for something that should be updated for free on an already existing game. Take into account the amount of stuff being redone in this Redux:

Advanced enemy AI
Improved combat and stealth mechanics
Superior weapon handling
More responsive, intuitive controls
Visuals have also been boosted
Advanced lighting
Dynamic weather
More detailed characters with improved animation
More dynamic destruction
Improved smoke, fire, and particle effects
New melee animations
Fan-requested Check Watch and Check Inventory features
The game also includes all previously released expansion packs
10 hours of extra gameplay
Ranger Mode for both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light
Two play styles: Survival Play and Spartan Play
Probably more that has not been listed online yet

Now that is a lot of time and money Deep Silver is investing into a game they didnt originally even have publishing rights to(and its predecessor). I look at it this way... yes the game should have come this way originally. But the blame doesnt lie with Deep Silver or 4A since the project was "officially" finished by the time of acquisition from THQ, and could only be distributed as is. If Deep Silver wants to redeem THQ's last mistake then they are welcome to do so, and they are allowed to charge us for it.

This actually reminds me of the L4D/L4D2 backlash... came out a year later without Turtle Rock Studio's and was criticized heavily in advance. Turns out Valve's claims of extreme zombie AI/Director fixes and the inclusion of melee were something that could not be simply patched in. I for one didnt believe them at first until I played it myself, and I paid full price for L4D and L4D2.

Paying 1/4 the price of a full game I already own, for the version it could have been is something I have no problem with at all, and neither should you.

I also heard 4A relocated their studio, hopefully they have heat in this one.

L4D1 and L4D2 are entirely different games. Completely new environments, completely new encounters, completely new content, completely new enemies, completely new weapons. Metro Last light to Metro Last Light Redux is literally the same game with a new coat of paint. Same environments, same encounters, same content, same enemies.

L4D2 also didn't charge for stupid DLC like higher difficulty i.e. "ranger mode"

You dont know that yet, if all the stuff listed above is part of the Redux, then there is a high chance of more that has not been mentioned, 4A doesnt slack off as is evident by both previous installments.

Also L4D2 was priced at full I'm pretty sure, no discounted prices occured. No inclusion of L4D1 content occured or mentioned until way after the game came out, and maps were slowly ported one by one.

With L4D2 we paid another $59.99 for the addition of: better AI, smarter Director, melee weapons, 5 90min maps, gibbable zombies, around 5 new guns, and 2 new Special Infected on the same engine as L4D.

Thats a lot less compared to what we are getting from Metro Redux.

With Metro Redux we are paying $24.99 for both Metro games containing these additions: advanced enemy AI, improved combat and stealth mechanics, superior weapon handling, more responsive intuitive controls, boosted visuals, advanced lighting, dynamic weather, more detailed characters with improved animation, more dynamic destruction, improved smoke/fire/particle effects, new melee animations, fan-requested check watch and check inventory features, all previously released expansion packs, 10 hours of extra gameplay, Ranger Mode, and two play styles: survival play and spartan play.

A lot of whats listed affects enviroment, content, enemies(human at least), and possibly encounters.

Seems pretty spot on in terms of price for me.

If you list out every single tiny pointless detail of course the list will come out longer than L4D2's upgrade from L4D1. Valve wasn't desperate enough to list out "boosted visuals" which would be obvious for any sort of sequel or upgrade.

The only DLC in metro last light that was worth anything was Factions Pack, and that was pushing it.

Ok well L4D2 used the same 2008 Proprietary Source Engine as L4D, had 3 new special infected, 5 new 90 min maps(now 7), Melee weapons, 6 new guns, better infected AI, better director AI, varying common infected looks, gibbable common infected, 4 new survivors on original survivor system, dialogue for new survivors, better special infected textures, new rendering for water, and eventually all of L4D1 ported all for $60.

In terms of visuals they didnt alter much of the first game except for the infected and water.

Is that the list you wanted?

Its not desperation that they listed some of the new content, it is what happens when a game is prematurely leaked to the consumer. Since Deep Silver already promised more information at E3, I suggest you maintain your composure a little longer till a formal announcement is made. But be my guest if you would rather travel the length of the Steam Forums arguing points that I have patiently broken down and disproved or clarified with you.

Time for sleep, till tomorrow good sir, we will undoubtedly continue to agree to disagree over 12 dollars and 49 cents.

Waste of money if you already have this game.
Dark Diplomatic May 23, 2014 @ 4:16am
I got the original Metro from Humble Bundle and i bought Last Light retail version for 4,99 €, so why this bundle if not for the poor console peasants?
AgentBlacklight May 23, 2014 @ 7:14am
On the Steam page of Redux, it says that if i own Metro 2033 already i can UPGRADE to Redux for 50% off. Does that mean that if i buy Redux i will not have both Metro 2033 and Metro 2033 Redux, but original version will be simply "converted" into Redux version, like a patch?
cSg|mc-Hotsauce May 23, 2014 @ 7:30am
no.

you get both.

idk... they havent said anything about that.

lol
