However, interest in the game has remained strong in the years since then, so we decided to revisit WolfQuest and give it a much-needed overhaul and expansion. The only way we could undertake this was by selling the game in hopes of paying back our development costs. We were always proud that WolfQuest was a free game, but the only way for WolfQuest to continue and thrive now is if players are willing to pay $10 to support it. We hope you will consider doing so!

That's unfortunate.
Although it has alot of bugs and one less map it's not much of a different experience really.
And I've noticed that it is extremely far more easier than 2.7 even if you have it at the lowest difficulty.
Feel free to ask me if you want to know some interesting features in 2.5.
I think it took me about a year of saving up from my babysitting jobs to finally afford a Gameboy Color. (Wow, that was so long ago now....)
