Wolf Pups, Predator Spawns, And Elk Stamina
I have enjoyed playing this game for a long time and was super excited to see that it had become available to steam for a number of reasons. However there were a couple things that I noticed that were seemed off no matter which difficulty you were playing on.
First off, the wolf pup metabolism seems to be far too fast. Even on the lower difficulties their hunger/health drops to zero before you're able to either bring down an elk, scavenge a carcass, or (if you luck out) kill a rabbit. I get that on the harder difficulties (I played on the hardest, but went to an older save to check this on the easier difficulties) you're suppose to struggle, but due to their high metabolism you're lucky to keep even one pup alive. Your mate does jack-all to help you too. The mate is more of a hindrance by this point than a help.
Next, the amount of predators/enemies that spawn is ridiculous. Even on the easier levels. Not only do you have to deal with the unrealistically high metabolism rates of the pups, but then you have to deal with an unrealistic number of enemy spawns that will try and kill your pups. I get that den choice can affect this level, but when you end up getting one spawn right after the next (or right on top of each other) you spend more time defending your pups than feeding them resulting in dead pups. On top of that, you're too busy chasing off predators to keep your territory properly scented meaning an influx of stranger wolves who will also kill your pups. Even when reverting back to an easier level on an earlier save, this spawn rate seems far too high.
The elk stamina is the final issue. I love the fact that the elk don't tire out within five seconds of chasing them, however giving them an infinite amount of stamina seems a bit much. Elk have high stamina IRL yes, but they don't run everywhere they go. The fact that even with high stamina you can never run down an elk seems idiotic and makes killing them feel like a wasted effort despite the fact that you need to kill them to survive. This becomes an issue when you go to have pups later on. Their high metabolisms mean you need to bring down kills quicker which is hard to do when that animal never tires, and even harder when your pups starve within ten seconds after feeding them.
Idk if this is an issue for everyone, or if a large number of people take an issue with it, but personally these seem like issues that should be addressed. And I will reiterate that I understand harder difficulties are meant to be hard, but they aren't meant to be near impossible. And these issues shouldn't even be present in lower difficulties either.

2.7 WolfQuest has always been like this, and is no longer being worked on.

The Anniversary Edition is the focus and has pretty much taken care of the vast majority of these problems.

That's rather disappointing to be honest. While I do enjoy the anniversary edition (from what little I played), it's sad to see them basically scrapping their original game.
