The paid version available on Itch.io, Humble Bundle, Steam, iTunes, Google Play and Amazon's app store feature various improvements, new content, bug fixes, an in-game accounts system separate from/in no way tied to the community forum (includes a friends list, in-game messaging and pack support, achievements and in-game news), partial controller support and changes to the way the game saves data, new prey (moose), new predators (cougar) and other new NPCs (foxes, birds and insects), improvements to the existing maps, one new map (Lost River)... the list goes on.
There is more yet to come, including some much-needed reworks to existing features and mechanics of the game. A new episode (episode 3: Tower Fall) is currently in the works along with an anniversary edition, which will feature new maps for Amethyst Mountain and Slough Creek (rebuilt from scratch), a brand new codebase, hydration, some more new prey including mule deer, mule deer fawns, moose calves and elk calves, a reworked and updated wolf model, and more. A lot of things on the horizon. ^^

There's been a lot of progress since Eduweb returned to WolfQuest in 2014, since 2.7 launched in November 2015. If you want to compare, we do have this thread from before 2.7 launched: http://wolfquest.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=77463
You could also check out the demo/free trial -- available on the store page, beside the "Add to Cart" button on the Steam store page for WolfQuest as well as being available on the Itch.io storefront[eduweb.itch.io]. :) Again, if you want to compare for yourself, here's the old free version: http://wolfquest.org/downloads.php
