Devs are quietly pushing updates that degrade the game to the point of unplayability. This kind of changes, like the Spintires timed crashes and Dark Souls netcode removal, violate the Steam developer policy. Reporting the game as defective will force the devs to take action, either by ousting the programmer responsible and rolling back the changes or by issuing refunds and pulling the game from Steam.
The particular category you're looking for if you flag this game is "Broken". In the additional information form, mention the recent updates.
EDIT: I decided to jump back into this game with a debugger to figure out what exactly the game does when it shuts off. Apparently this no longer works. This time, instead of exiting with code zero (No error, clean exit) when dashing down in a city it exits with code 84 on startup, which is the "not enough storage" error. Pretty strange to get this on a machine with 150 GB of free space.
The noticable changes introduced by the updates after the last contact from the devs just seem so... specific.
Pirate an older version. That's your only choice.
And using a mod that doesn't load missions, such as villain mode, fixes everything.
i just don't see why else they'd bother spending time on this unless there's an end goal such as VR.
I'm no expert, but I would guess that limiting altitude would be done without instantly crashing the game, right ? Also, as I understand it, some enemies can only be killed from below, meaning you need to get close to the ground.
Still following this thread... If that ever gets fixed, I will probably buy the game. But as it is now, I certainly won't.
Or as other people have mentioned, install mods which reverse the update's slowdown effects.
