anyone know if there is a way to remove pirates
ya nothing realy works. kida getting a bit annoyed having to auto resolve 2 or 3 battles a turn. then again pirates in this game was always incredibly dumb. more of a random event then anything else. so is there something i can edit that will remove piracy completely.

ps yes i tried police cruisers. yes i tried q ships. yes i tired naval stations. in the end none of thes solve the problems. the freighters just get captured and they run away.

Yes, when you are creating a game while choosing your map, set the Encounters (menace) bar from 100% and up, or all the way down to 0%. Personally, I set it on 75% for shorter games, and 50% for long games.

i like random encounters. but pirates should not be a random encounter. its one thing to have space ghost or ancient robots attack without warning anywhere on your planet. its another for space pirates. pirates use the same weapons and tech you use. so them attacking like von numan. kinda seems a bit stupid. so i rather just edit a file and remove them completely.

If you are getting a lot of pirates despite having police cutters and what not, there are 2 probable causes. 1) Zuul! Zuul nearby encourage piracy and slaving. Wipe them out. 2) Pirate base - this is actually the most likely. You will get pirate attacks almost constantly until you locate this base and wipe it out. Start patrolling your borders with deep-scan vessels, when you see a system that seems inhabited and the color ring is grey - it's very likey a pirate base. Take it down.

I'm not sure if a pirate base is a random encounter or not, but pirates in general are not. There is a base level of piracy that will generally be present when you trade.

ehh irrelvant once i got final missle upgrade. combined with the convoy tech kinda removed the problem as they would spawn closer to the planets. still thou rather just remove pirates entirely. the turns go by slow enough.

ya. you fail to realize i already did that. and it did almost nothing.even with 12 police cruisers in deffence fleet it fails to work. and while i do have zull on the map. the zull was more then 10 light years away from the planets being attacked.

still thou this dose not answer my question. i want to remove it entirely. is it possible to remove it. i already know how the game wants me to fix the problem.

you fail to grasp that i am asking for a way to remove pirates from the game. i already know the mechanics of it. secondly if you cannot read english. if your realy having that difficult realizing that the post itself is not about how to stop pirates with the current game mechanics. but to remove them from the game itself. removing any chances of memory leaks to happen. and speeding up the turns.

in other words caesar, stop responding to this thread. you have nothing to add and you dont read the post. combine that with your poor and hard to read paragraphs. so in other words dont ever post on this thread again.

Sorry, I thought you were trying to find a way without editing, I didn't pay enough attention. I'm sorry but I couldn't find anything for you. I tried to browse in my game directory using some developer programs but I couldn't find anything that could help you. I'm playing with 200% random encounters and 5 grand menace but I got attacked only 3 times in 150 turns. Good luck, I hope you will find what you are looking for.

if you are still having hard time undestanding this. i will keep it simple. i dont like the random genrated pirate attacks. i want to remove them or reduce them so they never happen. i

Try this. I don't assure it will work but it's the best I've found until now. Remember to make a backup, it's a modification that could crash the game. Go to your installation folder of Sword of the Stars 2, mine is Steam/steamapps/common/Sword Of The Stars II, go in the folder "base" located in "assets", find commonassets.xml and open it with Notepad++, search the String <PiracyBounties>, under that String you will find two other String that say:

<PiracyBaseOdds>0.02</PiracyBaseOdds>
<PiracyBaseMod>0.35</PiracyBaseMod><PiracyModNoNavalBase>0.02</PiracyModNoNavalBase>
<PiracyModZuulProximity>0.02</PiracyModZuulProximity>
<PiracyMinZuulProximity>10</PiracyMinZuulProximity>
On this one MinZullProximity I have some doubts, if it crash try to don't modify it.

Set them to zero. Save the file and try the game, after a bit tell me if it crash or it work and if it'll crash I'll try my best tomorrow. Remember to have a backup if the game crashes with this modification.
I hope this will finally help, wasn't this what you were looking for? Maybe you will need to create a new game to see the effects.

wait. looks like this only partly prevents it. thou getting the convoy upgrade ends up finishing any chance of pirates showing up.

Have you tried putting police cutter on patrol? I think that is cheaper option than lose some trading income.

no more pirates. thou i would not waist a fleet using patrol craft. there only usefull for a minor redcution to piracy. in a fight they die to even early level ships. as most only have 2 light turrets and 2 mediume. weak armor, slow. there kinda usless compared to a real fleet.
