# 2 is a dud, buggy, unfinished, and for me damn near uplaybale, and more poor thought out concepts. You can tell it is not complete seconds after starting the game, if you played 1, you can see how poorly done it is right away.
1 however struck me as a great game almost as soon as i booted it up, it also had a rought start, but the first time the devs managed to fix it up into a near perfect 4x space game, unlike 2 that was DOA and never could be brought back to life.
As for the AI mod, do you have any feedback for it?
I'm currently playing as SolForce with very hard difficutly enabled and maximum AI bonus. My main opponent has been Hivers although I have been attacked by the Liir.
Overall so far it seems like the AI is better at delivering a consistent pressure (as in constant attacks) on systems that forces me to defend those systems with fleets that could otherwise be used on offensive operations. The AI seems to still lack the ability to properly focus mulitple fleets on a single system for invasions but they do keep up the pressure quite well.
The Hiver AI also doesn't seem to be fully utilizing its tech base but I'm hesitant to call this a deficiency. For example, I see the AI fielding a lot of antimatter CNC ships but the remainder of their fleet is still fusion powered. Not sure if that's because they are stretched for funds and can't afford to build all antimatter ships or if its something up with the AI logic.
The Hiver also don't appear to be fielding large fleets (largestI've seen is 66 CE) and either hasn't researched Armada CNC or won't use it. If the Hiver AI would throw larger fleets at me and focus multiple fleets at the same time on my systems I think I would be quickly overwhelmed.
And it's got nothing to do with graphics either. I simply much prefer the mechanics and design in 2. Though I realize the changes to the design turned a lot of people who loved 1 off, I feel all of them are improvements (And yes, this includes the fleet/admiral system).
+1
Sots 2 fixed that with command limits on fleet size. No backups. Just what you can carry, which made more sense.
