What does this game have that other mmorpg games don't?
Is there any reason I should play this over other games? Loved AQW but I've heard not great things about this game

Pros :

-Avaiable on mobile

-Extremely solo friendly (If gear good enough or correct class equipped you can solo 95% of content)

-Decent Character creation (Gender, Hair, skin color ,beard , eye color)

-Great Aesthetic customization (over 4000 different outfit parts; head, cape, shoulder, gloves, belt, boots; easiest transmog system i know ; no gear coloring tho)

-Convience (Instant class switching , No long walks, teleport to friends almost anywhere, friend summons, easy to team up etc. )

-No pay2win at all ( .. yet?)

-All kinds of different events all year long (seasonals ,holidays , Dev team birthdays and more)

-Pvp (5v5 Arena fights, individual 1v1 duels )

Cons :

-No builds (No stat allocation outside of gear, no skilltress , Dual classes are a lie since its just one swappable skill)

-Sometimes grind heavy

-Not much to do outside of combat (There is fishing and its lame , Mining is work in progress for years)

-Very slow updates

-Buggy

Subjective (Can be pro or con depending on personal tastes):

-No high end graphics

-No trading system

-Surprisingly mature community (Almost everyone appears to be 30+ years of age)

-Comedic Writing isnt for everyone

-only 5 combat skills per class

It's a casual MMO.

I can't tell you if you'll like it but I can say why I like it.

I can play it whenever I want, take a few weeks off and come back and at most have to take a few days to get back to max level and not at all feel like I missed out.

I can play this with minimal stress and not feel the need to min/max, micromanage or grow an extra hand just to feel like I'm playing correctly. I use it as a time filler / decompression from other games I play when they start to drag.

I really enjoy the quirky humor that is throughout the game. Even the devs aren't trying to make the game seem sweaty-serious.

I wouldn't recommend it as your main "full time" MMO if you'd consider yourself a semi-serious to serious MMORPGamer, but I definitely recommend it as a fun casual place to spend some time and achieve some goals that aren't necessarily tied to "PWNY-ness".

The devs are very consistent with keeping to a curve of new releases and keeping it at a pace somewhere near what a casual few hour a week player can keep up. However, even if you take some time off, the leveling speed is pretty fast so it's relatively easy to catch back up. That's unlike most other MMOs where it feels like any day you aren't pushing to grind / level / gear you're falling behind.

Considering the difficulty is far from the elitist sweaty try-hard level of many other MMPs, gearing isn't even that important. Every level range increase includes easy and fast gearing that outgears even the best of the previous level range so if you hit a wall where you don't want to grind out the "best" (and usually longest grind) gear you can always just wait till the next level cap increase for easier better gear. It's not as if those few extra stats on the super-grind gear are that necessary with the relatively low difficulty of the game.
I just wanna say AE is probably THE best company when it comes to holiday events. It's insane to think how many games they've got going on and they seem to actually CARE about them.
As for the game it's pretty okay. It's a beta still, so keep it in mind. Everything is playable and fine it's just that it can be lacking if you're not a casual MMO player. I will ALWAYS recommend DragonFable although not an MMO just wanted to throw that in :D

IIRC, Artix Entertainment is privately owned LLC, indy developer - not publicly traded. This is a really, really huge PRO (and at great risk.). So many MMO close down their private servers after just a few years depending on the platform & usage or put them in maintenance mode.

Not these guys. excluding the seasonal cosmetic drops, they have been expanding several of their stories lines (the World of Lore). There also software updates practically every week. Sure, it's not story rich as The Secret World Legends or Fallout 4, or Skyrm. But, they consistently put out new content & story expansion.

I also don't mind the "PS2" level models as they have some decent texture maps. They have some surface illusions where the texture map shading is so good, a completely flat ramp looks like 3D stairs until you approach it from <40 degree angle up close.

They also do lots of stuff for their player base - paid guardians (for cosmetics) or not (... AQ3D really is NOT pay to win).

* For staff birthdays, holidays, etc. They'll get on the servers and have huge live events doing crazy things like dropping 100 mega-bosses on you, mess with you some more, then clear the field, give you some real bosses, and live event exclusive drops.

* For nearly two years straight due to covid, any in-game premium currency purchased gets 50% more to make their game cosmetic purchases go further. (Like other MMO or E-sports would ever do that - maybe a special one time, but not for *TWO* years.)

* And last night, they gave *every* player, $3.50 premium currency, an new bank vault worth about $5 premium currency, and 10 gift boss tokens worth about $30 - $40 total -- not adjusting for the 50% deal atm. This wasn't some make it up to the players cause of their fubar. It was a "*surprise* we appreciate you, have fun & go nuts". I've never seen that (only companies do that to make up for mistakes.)

* and being a casual MMO that cross plays on Desktop & Mobile, I'm not limited to when or where I play (so long as my 4G/5G plans has enough data.) My playtime commitment is when I have a cycle and I'm not penalized in-game for skipping a week.

* they release often. bug fixes. stories. while also working on long term features like the trading/auction house features, etc. They don't want to create any imbalance or hurt the player base.

* They also respond very quickly to support tickets, usually within a couple of days. That's a huge deal.

So, if you miss an f'up & deep stories like Secret World, pass on AQ3D cause it's light hearted. If you want an WOW experience, do WOW. (repeat for Star Wars, Star Trek, other MMOs.)

But, if you want casual, zero cost, zero penalty, laid back MMO, you should try AQ3D. It may take a couple of weeks for you settle in and go "ya, this is not hard core, but it's good enough not being extra frustrating to play". Being causal, it'll take you at least a year to play through all the story content. That's not counting all the year round content that pops up along the way either (Halloween is lots of fun.)

One more tip when playing AQ3D. With their premium "Dragon Crystals", I hardly ever have to pay real dollars for them. If I do, it's not even a couple of bucks.

I do Google Opinion Reward on my phone. I then use my free "Play" money to purchase "DC". So you can even get "Guardian" for $$ off and more "DC" on the cheap using Google Rewards Play money.

Honestly mostly it's just funny. It's the MMO equivalent of having a sitcom on in the background.

Heres from 7 years of experience, aka outside the box:
(no, I did not read the previous comments)

- AQ3D allows for family time, its not a game you need to be playing for 5-8 hours a day to be a pro.

- If you have no time a at, the daily task quest to complete 8/10 daily tasks to HUGE exp and gold, take 2min to complete.
(therefore you can still be playing the game 2min a day)
I played AQW when i was little and when i didn't had money to get prepaid for wow, i always played AQW and then AQ3D came and logged on few times just for nostalgic, cozy feeling.
