Only 1 character slot?

Old AdventureQuest gave you 6 character slots. Are you seriously locked to just 1 in this one?

Yes, but there is really no point in having multiple characters.

You can have all classes on your single character. There are no restrictions based on character creation that would need another character to achieve.

Even if you really want to go through the story quests multiple times, accounts are free so you can always just make another account for Steam and AQ3D.

Yeah the old game also let you have all the classes on one character, but it's just nice to have multiple characters for different play styles. Especially when you join factions like werewolves/vampires.

There are no factions (yet) and there has already been an area in Darkovia that mentions you should return "if you ever need to be cured" so it sounds as if it would be easy to switch if they do give vamp v. lycan.
