Tips for a good start
To all players having trouble with the beginning of the game, here are some info and some tips for a good start:

  • Dungeons in the first theme, where players have only 3 characters unlocked, containing a group of 6 monsters guarding the treasure have already been nerfed weeks ago by reducing the number of monsters in the group to 5.

  • Potions availability in the shop has been increased and hard coded weeks ago so you can buy at least one each time you finish a dungeon (the shop resets each time you finish a dungeon, just in case you missed that, cause it helps a lot).

  • Manors have always been there to help players gather resources for crafting and to get more potions (drops are fixed for manors and have been hard coded for each floor with different rewards like life potions, water, iron and more).

  • Experience earned by slaying Skeleton Warriors will be increased in the upcoming patch, even if leveling up will not make it easier in dungeons, the only thing that could help are the two talent points, but the difference is very small if you're already struggling at that point (merely because of a lack of defensive stats).

  • Bonus challenges are not meant to be completed at first try, even if it's possible. You can come back later to make them if you didn't complete them. Don't bother with them if you're already struggling.

  • Dungeons layouts are fixed, so you just have to memorize them if you're struggling with a dungeon in particular and do it again by playing the safest way possible. Manors layouts are random though, but you have the proper exploration abilities to help you discover them and progress safely enough.

  • Don't forget to craft some defensive items to make your characters less squishy as soon as you can (like after finishing the floors of the first manor for example, just saying). An armor for your tank, helmets for everyone for more life, etc... Going full damage doesn't work at the beginning, and it's not the only game like this.

  • Move the place of your characters in the managing screen so Thorgrim stays in front to tank for the team (doesn't work for ranged attacks though, but this is intended). Line of sight is also affecting enemies.

  • Most important thing, manage your stock of potions at the beginning. Don't waste them if you're almost dead at the beginning or the half of a dungeon, you won't get them back if you're game over. You'd better try a dungeon by exploring it as much as you can, even if it means dying, cause it will save you a lot of life potions you would have wasted for nothing. You can then do it again and try to avoid going to the most unsafe way, like rushing into every group of monsters without caring even if you knew where they were placed (fixed dungeon layout, see above).

  • The initial number of potions when starting a fresh game has been increased. So if you had a really bad start and are not very far in the first theme, you'd better reset your game so you get your initial life potions back and you'll be able to progress faster and easier now that you have read all these advices.

I think the difficulty still needs some tweaking. I'm having a lot of difficulty getting past the first big dungeon and grinding levels takes a very long time because the experience earned from repeating stages is next to nothing.

Just with some practice, I did learn a few addition tips for my early run through.
Keep playing and learning layouts avoiding the brunt of the enemies.
Once you get the minstral, conserve your sleep spells for large fights.
Once you get the 4th character, feel free to go back and start doing heroic versions and multifloor dungeons at that point.
If you know of a later dungeon that you find easy, try to unlock the heroic version so you can grind it out.
Buy ingredients from shops all the time. You can crank up your crafiting ability really quickly and those resources quickly become a very small percentage of your earned money. They also refresh every dungeon.
Once you get past the intro stages, you earn more money so potions are more realistic to use.
Try to use potions outside of battle. why waste a turn if you can avoid it.
Manage your formation, some abilities are dependent on your formation, with proper coordination, you can maximize thier effectiveness.

Thats all I have at the moment.

Really cool advice given here. I just want to add that you can download a cheating dugeon run mod from the Steam Workshop to get free ingridents and items. If you get unlucky and get a surprise attack, quickly click the white flag and get out of there as you keep all the items you have found. I consider this a last ditch effort if you feel you are out of options and need some help to get things moving along.
