Victoria II

Any one understand the political party system?
At the moment I have 4 Liberal parties, 5 Conservative parties and 2 Facist parties (along with 1 each for communist, socialist and anarcho-liberal) competing at each election.
Can any one explain why on earth this happens? It never seems to happen with the AI.

It also seems that, even though only 25% of my population is Conservative, each Conservative party gets the exact same level of support - 9.6% which gives them a constant majority (when in coalition with reactionaries) even though only 25% of the population is alligned with them.

There might be small differences between them, i.e. one conservative party is pro-military, another is jingoistic, one could be moralistic and one could be pluralistic.

A) Each nation gets a certain list of political parties, depending on the historical political parties they had. These parties will appear and disappear around when they did historically and some of them overlap when it comes to their political ideologies, although most overlapping parties do have some slight differences as steelrain said.

B) support depends on your laws and how your population is spread out. Your conservatives might just have a minor majority in some key states that give them majority, or you might have political laws such as harrassment that favor the ideology that is in power.

Thank you. I still don't quite understand why they each get exactly the same level of support and why the 5 conservative parties (each with 9.6% support) have a total 50% vote when only 25% of the population is ideologically conservative.

I'm guessing you don't have universal voting, even if only 25% of the population is conservative, 50% of the voting population might be conservative.
