Program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing
I have recently built a new computer, when I tried playing Victoria 2 from the launcher, nothing happened. no error, no message, nothing. when I tried playing directly from the v2game.exe in the Victoria 2 folder, it gave me the "program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer." (-not MSVCP100.dll) error. I tried to delete my map cache in the paradox interactive folder until I found that i don't have one, i searched my entire computer...it doesn't exist. I noticed that if i do not install the HoD and AHD DLC through steam, the game works, vr 1.3, that is. I tried downloading the MSVCR100.dll from Microsoft, but the error message still popped up when i tried playing Victoria 2.

UPDATE:
I've recently upgraded to windows 8.1 from windows 7, that fixed the problem. That makes me wonder if Victoria 2 is compatible with windows 7 or not.

did you try reinstalling?

Yes, countless times.

It's (or at least should be) due to a missing 32-bit Visual C++ Package, downloadable here :

I have a 64-bit OS, is that going to be a problem?

No, 64bit should be compatible with 32 as well (just not other way around).
Anyway, Steam installs 64-bit version for that C++ Package if it detects your PC Version being 64-bit, but the game runs on 32 so...

I tried installing the link you gave me, it said a newer version had been detected on my machine.

I also have wizzerdd's problem, with the newer version and what not. I'll be asking for a refund though, because this is frankly ridiculous.

Use the vcredist_x86.exe in your game folder.

The OP has his problem fixed by the way.

I've already tried that. Didn't work.

Have a look in "programs" if you have a Visual c++ 20ß5 redistributable and a 2010 x86.
One of those is probably corrupted and the troublemaker.

Uninstall these two.
Restart your computer.
Now reinstall both: Run the program i mentioned first, then the link Lembley offered for the 2010 x86. After completion, run a Windows update for security updates for both.

That could do.

And if you are mistaken and it is the MSCVP100dll, then you need A House Divided :)
