Does Socialism make Germany overpowered?
I've been trying to figure this out, because it's getting annoying. It seems that lately every time I do a save, whether it be singleplayer or multiplayer, Germany always ends up being rank #1, has WAY too many armies, and socialist. No joke, there was one time where a great war started with Germany and Romania against Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and Scandinavia. Germany DESTROYED THEM. I have, at time, though, seen times where Germany doesn't even survive the North German Federation phase, but only when the country doesn't go socialist. It seems that every time Germany turns socialist, they go super saiyan and destroy every being in the known universe. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, this seems to have started way back when I got HoD.

Socialism is in the game pretty bad because its usually anti-militaristic. However its quite popular among the people.
Anyway, the reason why Germany in your savegames is overpowered is simply, because Germany is overpowered. If you let Germany form in MP, you did something wrong in the first place I'd say :P
I think your stuff with socialism is just a coincidence.

Yep - Germany (Especially Prussia/Northern Germany regions) are incredibly good. High literacy, coal, steel - lots of fruit and food for canned goods and drink.

Add to that millions of people being peacefully annexed into the Germanies and "Germany" and you've got a real power machine. It is VERY easy to push ahead of the English very early without working for it.

I'd actually say that Germany works better staying ... Reactionary? (The non-conservative party you start out with) if only to allow you total control of industry and infrastructure. Build up a strong industry and you can throw literal millions at soldiers.

Haha, I would definitely agree that we need to lock Prussia/German Federation down a bit more often before they become more powerful. The reasoning for my failure to do so, is because I only like playing as the small nations (Ionian Islands, Sokoto, Madagascar, etc.)

Next time we start a save, we'll definitely look into keeping the German states in check. Any advice on how I should go about doing that? Periodic "Cut down to size" wars, perhaps?

Just sphere something that they need to form Germany and dont forget to kick them out of it when they try to attempt to get it.
Cut down to size is just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ move in MP I think (besides Great Wars) since you are absolutely defenseless when a random AI decides to take stuff from you.

Empire of Germany is most powerful nation in the game if you let it form. Even North German Federation is very powerful nation.

Germany have very good population and high literycy rate allowing them to tech pretty fast. German High POP regions can have huge industry capasity and large number of capitalist and clerk POP to boost factories even futher.

Does this mean that Austria or the South German Confederation could become just as powerful?

Well you can form Greater Germany as Austria as well... but its easier as Prussia. But yeah sure.

One of the problem for Austria is that it is very multicultural country that means that minorities like Hungarians, Serbs, Kroats, Czech etc. If austria use moralism / residency parties with jingoism in power many minorities emigrant to USA and other democratic countries.

While for Germany 90% - 95% of population comes from accepted cultures if you form Germany then both North and south German POP are accepted culture. For German only Polish POP are large foreing POP type.

True, the base country is not as strong as Prussia / Germany due to its many different cultures and low literacy and so on, but if you're able to form Germany as Austria (which isnt that difficult if Prussia isnt player-controlled) then those are just extra pops.

If you are playing weaker nation you can always try to play diplomacy in the way that you have the advantage. I have been able to beat up even France while playing Belgium by turning most of other great powers against them.

Austria also historically had lot of problems with minorities and couple very large civil wars against Hungarians its pretty historical that they have more problems than Prussia in that sence.

Well yeah, I agree (i know how the game is played :P) , though u kinda sound like you try to teach us really simple things (like logic / history 101). Propably its just the internet, but I can't not comment on that :P

So now I'm fairly curious. For anyone who has played as Greater Germany, what was the most brigades you were able to make?
