Patch 0.4.6.3 (respectively Hotfix 3) is the last one i know of.
It's the same as on the github for HPM.
This. It's basicaly new HPM. Very similar gameplay, just more.
If you want microstates and hundreds of cultures, try TGC. Of course, it will run slower than GFM.
I you have potato or just like lightweight, but still good mods; try Victoria Universalis.
Interesting I'll look into it!
Appreciate it! You know I never really understood how github works to be perfectly honest as I don't have much programming experience.
Would be be truy terrible if one would need programming experience to just download a mod from there. You just click on "<>Code" on the top left belwo the mod/work title to get to the page with it, then click on the green "Code" button (or on "Releases" to the right, depends), and select the "Download ZIP" option. Once downloaded, unpack it and voila, the mod.
IF you refer to everything else, it's usually used for modders to coordinate modding work and organising bug reporting and fixing. The editing/modifiying as such is usually done outside it, as far as i know.
I was more thinking of the modding stuff and how its organized can be a bit confusing but if youre just downloading a file yea its fine.
Sadly these big mods kill poor old V2 engine. That's why many just wanted Victoria 2.5; basically improved version of V2 on new, CK3 engine. Instead we got Factorio/Anno like game.
I highly recommended this post to see performance of different V2 mods. Victoria Universalis and Age of Englithement are great mods too (though they have less flavour) and work very well performance wise.

I have no idea how vicky 3 plays I started and got depressed. I only wanted vicky 2.5 as well.
I wish someone else would also make a game like that. Pride of Nations initially looked really promising back in the day.
I recommend to check Grey Eminence and Fields of History: Great War. Similar games under development by former PDX modders. Some guys from Grey Eminence worked on MEIOU mod for EU4 and some from Fields of History: Great War worked on Hoi3 and Hoi 4 "Great War" mods.
Thank christ. I had heard of Grey Eminence. It seems like games I've dreamed of my entire life are finally in development but knowing that it could be years waiting always is painful as you get older lol.
Appreciate the info I had no idea about the second game and didnt know either were under development by former pdx modders.
Idk man why did paradox have to change? I remember hoi2 was what got me into not just their games but gsg in general. It all seemed to go downhill once they started making stellaris. Like EU4 was the last of the classic era.
I can't buy their stuff anymore after Vicky 3. That was the last straw they ruined my favorite franchise of all time, AGAIN. I used to consider hearts of rion to be my favorite but then the casualized abomination of 4 came out and the team under podcat would routinely go for 8 months or more with no communication.
I'd give up just about anything to have more grand strategy games. To have that experience I used to have with hoi2, ck1 and 2, and eu3 and 4. I tried WitE and its sequel but despite like 12 plus hours of listening to tutorials and admittedly about twenty hours on both games (i think) I still have no idea what I am doing. Plus I look at the number of counters and just sigh you know?
Idk why that doesn't bother me so much in other games.
So yea I've been desperate for some kind of experience of grand strategy and if not that then at least the premise of that a game like WitE 1 and 2 offer which is for the most part to run a war from start to finish. I want scale. I also never cared about graphics either.
Drives me insane man I can't find a game that clicks yet.
Well, PDX like every company, grows. Usually it's a bad thing for passionate gamers that like niche games, but good one for investors and company itself. Remember that gaming is business; it's not charity. By simplyfing these games, they are gaining bigger and bigger audience to buy their products. It's worth to mention that PDX went public in 2016 and is now under heavy influence of greedy investors that demands quick profits from PDX.
Since you seems to like older PDX titles, I recommend to try Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game; it's basically improved version of Hoi 2 made by modders with cooperation with PDX in 2011. Lot's of great mods exist for it!
Another good, forgotten PDX title is For the Glory. It's basically ultimate version of EU2. Good mods exist for it too!
These two games are dirty cheap on Steam and I highly recommend them if you like classic stuff!
