Dont play russia

Starting out as Russia Comorade? Might want to rethink that idea. It seems to me that the Russian military suffers more casualties then any other military in the game, including china. To be forward about it. I think its something in the games coding that makes the russian military weaker and more suseptible to large casualties even when defending while having good miliary leaders.

Let me explain. so, I start out as The Soviet Union in a mod that simply changes the time date to around world war two. I go up against Russian Whites, a splinter country that decided to break away from me early game. They have barely a stack of 30 against three stacks of well trained russian regulars with a star and a half of experience and decent generals. I throw one stack at the russian whites and within seconds my stack is gone. Defeated by force smalled and less experienced then it. So I send in another, results repeat. Then I send in an army of GUARD infantry mixed with three brigades of cannons. Needless to say I had to MOBOLIZE to defeat a nation with a military score of 9 which was ranked as 47th.

So I guess Paradox doesnt like Russia all too much.

Also, sounds to me alot like your troops werent sufficiently supplied!?

Nah, I know they were supplied 100 percent. (I cheated and made railroads as high as I could)

Plus they were fighting in my territory.

That has nothing to do with it. I meant, you need to be able to buy enough conserves / arms / ammunition / artillery pieces off the worl♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It doesnt matter how much money you have necessarily either - sometimes there are just not enough. Not familiar with that mod, just pointing it as a possibility out.
Could be that in the mod russians are designed to be bad, since its not that off the historical line.

By cheat I meant I used the goods cheat which gives you every resource in the game to the ammount you put after the command.

Example: goods 99999999 would give you 99million of everything including cash.

Ohwell, then its maybe just that your troops either really suck by default like you said, or has no / the worst leader and terrain picking.

It all depends on your tech. If you are even 1 tech behind, you will get wrecked. The +% military tactics techs affects casualties the most.

I'm playing Russia right now and I was able to go toe to toe with the French and Prussian militaries quite easily.

One of my most succesful games in HoD were as Russia (my best being my US campaign) my industry wasn't top notch but I had the best military in the world competing with the NGF and France

I guess I wasnt playing the 'gentle' giant well enough. Anyone got any tips on how to play russia? Also, am I the only one who just doesnt touch the trade menu?

I only look at the trade screen to look at whos making most every once and a while but as Russia try to annex the Central Asian states and try to get to the Persian Gulf or near it in my Russia campaign I took Kars and then began making the Ottoman Empire realesae all the Balkan States and I put them in my shpere of influence. Maybe the access to the Persian Gulf will be harder sometimes because I got really lucky with Conquest CBs
