Send Expedition Event?

Sorry if this is a noob question, but I couldn't find the answer to it. I've had 2 events where it says "Country X already sent an expedition to _____" But you can too and you'll gain 5.5 prestige, and you can also not (and I think you lose prestige).
Is this just a random event that gives you a prestige boost? Or am I actually supposed to send troops to these territories? Both times they were already controlled by a country, and I didn't have military access or anything...

It's not military expedition it's more like archeologist or like scientist going to some place to study plants etc..

So you don't have to send troops anywhere.

Yup, just flavour event for prestige.
Expedition as in archeology, cartogaphy, well science, not as in conquering.

Though science often comes before conquering....not in the game, just refering to real life.
