How do I increase national focus points?

I only have one focus point right now and it would be very helpful if I could get more.

Either increase your primary culture population (I think 4000 pops for each focus point AKA you will probably get another one by growth only once in a game, maybe twice if you are Italy). Or you research culture tech (Second one to the left from the right, the column with Nationalism).

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. if it did you'd have dozens of points by end game if that was true

Im not sure if it's true or not but I know that theres a maximum limit set by your tech.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with states and not population. If you're below a certain state threshold you get 0 points, but if you're above you get 1 point. nations that are uncivilized and too small also get 1 free point. Then you get an additional point for each level of tech from the politics line of the culture group, I believe.

from wiki: you get 1 point for every 400 000 population of your primary culture, but there is a cap, which starts at 1 and some culture technologies increase it by 1, up to max cap of 7

You get more with each technology, but it's capped by /400 000 of your core population, yeah.

Pretty much only about political technology if you're a large country.

As a small country you need to worry about population.
