Victoria II

Uncivilized Nation and CAN research tech
Curios, I read that uncivilized nations can not research techs. I tried playing as Tunis and my conuntry is definitely researching (not reforming). Is something up?

You probably do not have the expansions that change how uncivilized nations work.

You do not need expansions for uncivilized nations to research. What ever ever you read was incorrect.

Well, uncivilized nations cannot research WITH expansions.
With they first have to reform.

Thanks. Do you know what expansion that is and/or recommend any expansions for the game?

IDK which one it is, but I would say wait for a sale and get both DLCs for cheap. And I think I read somewhere you need the first one to play the second one but idk if thats true or not...

Yes, you need the second expansion in order to play the first (which was how expansions used to always work till recently).
Id also suggest you get both. I think it gets overhauled in the second, Heart of Darkness as it focuses on colonization and so forth.

You want the whole thing with Heart of Darkness and opt into the 3.04 beta, and install the Historical Project Mod. HPM is a good mod that incorporates a lot of realism changes and small gameplay enhancements without veering away from the flavour and direction of the original game. It feels like vanilla, but better.

3.04 is out of beta status for like 1-2yrs by now (they did forget it to take out from the beta program though)
