Victoria II

Why did my war suddenly stop?
Played Prussia and declared war on France (cut down to size as justification). England joined on my side Russia joined on French side. After some time Russis offered peace to England and they accepted. War was completely over afterwards but I do not understand why?

How can my Ally (England) end a war I started by a peace agreement with the ally of the nation I originally declared war on? This seems to be really stupid and not logical. Apart from that nearly nothing seems to have changed. France ranked on 3rd position according to military power before the war, me on the 4th. Now I am an position 5 and France on 7. But thats that.

Please can someone explain this to me.

Thank you.

The UK became the war leader on your side, the Russians on the enemies. If war leaders agree to a peace, this in effect for the entire war.

The determining of who is war leaders seems to boil down to military score although sometimes it doesn't; it's a bit weird. Best is not to invite nations into a war that have more points than you.

Welcome to Victoria 2. Nothing makes sense in this game but you keep on playing. I had that recently during a Austria game. We had 60% warscore and then white peace because Great Britain feels like it. Got pissed off because the last war we fought together had me holding the line against France, Prussia, and Russia while Great Britain just sat on their island drinking tea. I believe the most powerful.... power becomes war leader by default. Really makes no sense if you are the one who declared war.

Very sad to read this. I just hoped to get some logical explanation for the things that happened, so its really disappointing to read that this seems to be normal in this game and yes, as you already mentioned, its not logical. Besides this,, not calling your Allies for help is also not an option, at least not if you fight against other wo have lot of allies. I would for sure not have been able to beat France and Russia alone.

Hope there will once be an update that changes that stupidity of you allies making peace when you are the one who started the war.

You can beat the AI easily with the right army composition (like 4 Infantry / 1 Husar / 5 Artillery) and being mindful of terrain.

It works the same way in Victoria Revolutions, the nation with the highest military score if called in the war on your side or against you can end the war for every party involved when they make peace. They receive the positon of war leader due to their strength, not a great system if you ask me as its tough to play as a small nation calling in a larger ally to your fight only to have that nation end the war for you even if you could make easy gains in it. When it comes to wars I ask myself before calling in a bigger ally if I REALLY need their help or if I have a chance of winning otherwise, why take the risk of having the war end prematurely if I dont need them.

As a great power, you shouldnt need to call in the UK. When it comes to the UK, when you call them in on your side, the most they do usually is blockade your enemy's ports. Heck, one time while playing as Germany, I called the UK into a war, and they did do one thing: THEY GOT INVADED. Seriously. The French just strolled into London, they might've had resistance, but it wasn't much because I never saw any of it. The UK is usually a good ally just to make sure no one screws with you.

First note, you play Prussia but Britain stole the war leader position? I might sound like a (insert offensive words here) but of all the many times i played as Prussia, i never had that happen, even as Prussia and before becoming the NGF.

Second, you need to consider who you should call into a war. Not calling a Great Power ally into a war is a big mistake, especially if that war is gonna be a long and gruelsome one. Even if you could beat a Franco-Russian alliance single-handedly, it's gonna be your biggest mistake unless you're just gonna have a one-month war. AI will tend to break your alliance if you're in a war for quite a while. And knowing that they're GPs, they'll find someone else to befriend, and you'll lose him/her in return for your indecisive actions.

Third, fighting France is not gonna be easy. Very often you'll find that France AI uses the most effective tactic ever, deathstacking. Any AI will easily be beaten by this dirty tactic by France, especially if France is on the defense (i.e. French lands being besieged). Using your conventional methods of having army composition of 50% infantry 35% artillery 10% cavalry 5% engineer is sufficient, but by the end of the war, your armies will be very worn out.

I usually counter their tactic with their tactic (get it?). Either chase them, or lure them and try to win with sheer force, and when they retreat, give them a chase. They'll usually retreat into a province with bigger armies, but by then you have halfed one of their big deathstacks so just keep stacking more and more and you'll eventually find that their brigade count of 250-200 (might even be 300 overall) goes down to 70-50 and eventually zero.
