How do I set a national focus?
I'm probably being really stupid here, but I have been poking around, looking on the internet on how I would set a national focus.

Everything I read says I need to click a small box next to the state name on the population screen, but it doesn't appear to be there. Am I doing something wrong?

Either be on the main screen, just above your militancy and conciousness. Or be on your population screen, than it is on one of your state tabs. It is a circle with an arrow going through it.

You start out with 1 focus point, later in game with tech and an high enough population of your primary culture you can unluck mulitple focus points.

Thanks for answering! It really helped and now I can finally get more soliders or whatever.

Well, it seems I spoke too soon. I can see the focus all right, above the militancy, but I can't actualyl change it. There is nothing on the state tabs. Is there something wrong here?

i know im late but i thinkkkkk you like
go to a province you have or something, and click on it, then press the circle with the arrow through it, should be next to the name and the man in the suit with some numbers under him
then choose a focus and you should be alright

this is a necro from hell but, if you have the dlc you need to wait till you get the correct techs that increase life rating and then you can get the ability to colonize, there's some places however that you can colonize early such as Australia, Canada, a couple places in Indonesia, and a couple African and South American places
