Best mod?
Are there any mods that are deemed as essential for this game? I dont like mods that change a massive amount just for the sake of making it more complex etc because I am not a power player, but just perhaps one that corrects any serious flaws in the vanilla game and makes the basic game more enjoyable?

HPM or PDM are really good ones. both strive to maintain the core of the game with little change, and stick to the vanilla course history wise.

they are different, but both similiar. both of these focus on fine tuning things and opening up a little more possibility. its also a great way to get more countries in the game. vanilla africa ignores alot of civilizations.

Actually stupid me as I havent played for a while I forgot I already have the GSG Vicky Mod installed in my game using JSGME and have HPM and PDM mods uninstalled but downloaded.

I think I went through the mods (from what I remember) trying them out and the GSG mod seemed the best as it gave more events and countries but less changes to the mechanics than the others.

Guess I'll quote the moddb page
Blood and Iron is a major overhaul mod for Victoria 2: Heart of Darkness. It's based on NNM and includes various reworked elements from other mods or minimods such as Vickymod, PDM etc. The main focus is on fixing, improving and balancing the game and expanding it with more gameplay mechanics, as well as to make the game more historical and realistic by adding more major and important historical events and nations in a way that it doesn't become too bloated and railroaded, as it also focuses on what-if scenarios and alternate outcomes if the player decides to follow a different path, and to make every country interesting and fun to play by adding more flavor events.

HPM seems to be crashing every time I try to install it using JSGME anyway. So I will take a look at B&I and see if it looks better than GSG cheers.

You're not installing mods correctly if you're using an external program (that isn't one that lets you extract .rar/.7zip files, anyway)

I extract the files first then use JSGME to install them into the Vic 2 program. Using JSGME allows me to reverse the mod or swap them if I want to. I dont know why HPM isnt working it seems to have a problem opening the map/definitions.csv file.

The problem is BECAUSE you're overwriting the game files with the mod using that program. That's not how you install mods for Vic2.

Hmm that H&I had a problem with that file as well. Did a validation and looks like I have a load of corrupt files. I will try it again. But JSGME worked perfectly with the GSG mod. I will mess around a bit and see if I get the issue coming up again.

It's because you overwrote the game files with the mod. DON'T DO THAT.

Go to the game folder, and extract the .mod file and the folder with the mod to the "mod" folder. That's how you do it properly.

You better not have used the program again.

I have indeed lol. Its ok I know what I am doing I remove the .mod file before I put the exploded files into the mod folder and then use JSGME to choose which mod to install. Its all fine now.
