Most Effective Steps for Unifying India?

I'm attempting an Indian unification run as Punjab, but I have several problems I keep facing. First off, I conquer literally every other unciv around me (excpet persia, too big to do quickly), yet I still get hardly any RP, even after picking all reforms that help increase RP from conqueing. Also it seems that although I can usually civilize sometime before 1860, but I end up missing out much of the scramble for Africa to a severe tech deficiency and low CP. I don't actually think I will have too much trouble defeating the British (I assume you just have to use mountain terrain bonus and hopefully get some allies), but I don't know if I have to individually release each Inidan puppet through war or if I just have to sphere then to form India. Some answers or tips would be appreciated.

In HPM, I had best results as the Mughals. They get a decision that usually causes AI Britain to give back their cores, which are densely populated and make it easy to take the rest of India.

They are Muslim though so unfortunately you are spreading a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cult if you do it that way.

Also I don't know if this is exclusive to Mughals but I got an event that let me form a personal union over Persia, turning them into a puppet.
