Operating System Support
Unofficial Support for Windows Vista and Windows 7

New Work Around ( 04/15/2016)
1) Launch the game - you may be greeted by a popup saying installation complete please restart, this occurs on Windows 7 and prior Operating Systems > Do not Restart Just Yet Though!

2) Check the file directory
32 Bit - C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\Steamapp\Common\CycleOfTyrfing\bin\Release
64 Bit - C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\Steamapp\Common\CycleOfTyrfing\bin\Release

A File should appear called "InstallAX" Which looks similar to the image below.
http://imgur.com/IQbSuT8 <== http://getadobe.com/flashplayer

Install flash from this link -

Run this application.
This application installs Flash Active X controls, a crucial component on Windows 7 and previous for this game
These steps are not necessary on Windows 8.1 or 10

3) Restart your computer and play ^_^

Note We will be releasing a patch Early May that will make these steps no longer necessary. This was an unforeseen issue, and I apologize for the inconvenience!

I developed this game on MacOS and Windows 8.1, and tested on windows 7 with a virtual PC because the virtual PC architecture was a bit different from a typical Windows 7 machine this issue could not be found until people with different architectures played the game! :(

Windows 10

There are no currently known issues specific to windows 10.
however there are reports of it not launching

there are about 5 or 6 instances of this happening.
But so far there isnt even a common error code.

I want to fix this issue, so if it is haappening, please get a dxdiag and msinfo file

To get MSINFO -
Go to Start > Run and type 'msinfo32' (without quotes please) in the 'Open' field and press OK button.

When the 'System Information' window is open, click on 'File' in the top toolbar and select the 'Export...' option.

Save this as a .txt file.

To get DXDIAG -

Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER

save as a .txt file

Thank you!

Mac OS Support
Will be launching Shortly after the Windows release. Alternatively You can use 3rd party applications such as Wine to run the game, I tested this on Mac OS 10.7.5 and it worked just fine. Of course this is not "Official" and neither Valve nor I can support this. I can only suggest it.

Linux

I need to get my hands on a Linux machine, I wont officiate support until I can make it work myself.

Doesn't help in any way. InstallAX says that it's not a win32 application.

No prob! Its a temporary solution for now, I am working on something 'built in' to the application so soon enough this wont be an issue

If it's largely flash, an Ubuntu vm running in virtualbox or your vm-manager of choice, should be adequate for Linux testing.

I'm not sure what Adobe's license is for including the flash player plugin with your game, but I think that's what other flash-based games would do.

Yeah, What im going to do is invest in a new HDD
Ill tell you a funny story, during development I lost my main PC its just collecting dust, so i moved to developing on my macbook which had only a 320 gb harddrive.
Its divided 3 ways, a windows 7 virtual box, and windows 8 partition and mac OS.

Recording gameplay footy eats up a tonne of HDD space so Ive been putting myself into a corner. Ill be upgrading to a 1 TB drive which should resolve my issues though

It gets even better, because my virtual win 7 behaves differently than a computer with it directly installed, so ive been scrambling to deal with win 7 support somewhat last minute. I had to find an old laptop, install windows 7 and use it as my win 7 machine for testing. Miraculously this ancient thing does work, but I have it elevated ontop of skateboard wheels so air can flow underneath it (otherwise it overheats)

what a mess! lol

thanks for the input!

I wonder how Windows 10 reacts to the game? I try running it on mine and it doesn't work. Sounds like you are busy with other operating systems. hopefuly those isues get resolved. good luck. :millafp:

It's weird I have 3 people having issues on Windows 10, I have a win 10 partition though and it works fine.

If it's not to much to ask can I get some error information from ya? Can you describe exactly what happens? Thanks a bunch!

I try to launch the game and it says it is running for a few seconds and then it stops. I am using a Windows 10 machine.

Mind if I request some information from you?
I need an msinfo.nfo file

I just did aa fresh install of windows 10 on my old compaq laptop and unfortunately it worked flawlessly :S I say unfortunately because I need to replicate the error
Demon Sword Games  [developer] Apr 16, 2016 @ 10:52am
MS Marvel, ArchivistX,

Can you get your msinfo.nfo and dxdiag files for me?

Article courtesy of Rockstar Games : https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200148686-How-to-find-your-DxDiag-MSInfo-files-

Save them as text documents and email them to dizimz@gmail.com at your earliest convenience.

The problem isnt OS specific it seems, but rather a combination of the OS + possibly 3rd party software.

It is no coincidence that it occurs on windows 10 mind you
However I can run it on virtaul windows 10, on my old compaq with a fresh install of windows 10.
My Moderator: Enix runs it fine and so do numerous other testers and players.

So I will need to get as much info as possible and Ill troubleshoot and see if I cant find a solution by tomorrow, It could be the way the resources are handled, it could be a dll file that doesnt cooperate with your build, Not too sure yet.

If I can get in direct contact as well, that would be superb!

thanks for the help guys and girls!

The Windows 7 workaround doesn't work for me. InstallAX.exe doesn't appear in the folder when I install. I have Flash Player installed for both Chrome and Internet Explorer (Chrome is my default browser), but CycleOfTyrfingBuild.exe opens and then closes after 5 seconds, with no window opening up or taskbar icon appearing or anything. I'm also not sure how having a browser plugin installed would help this game run, does it have to use a browser to access Flash?

I'm also not sure what the Flash EXE file you link to is supposed to do. It's not an installer, it opens up a blank window saying Adobe Flash Player. Even if I have that open, the game still doesn't run. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

InstallAX is the most important, I rolled back the version of Cycle of Tyrfing to a previous build. Please uninstall what you have and then reinstall it. The file should appear for ya

OK, InstallAX is there. But when I open it, it says "InstallAX.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

Fortunately, I hit Play in Steam and the game runs fine for me now. Maybe because I already installed the Flash ActiveX control using the IE installer on their website? Either way, it's working for me now. Thanks!
