Dying at the same time the last enemy does, causes a softlock

The only way to get out of this situation is to alt-F4, there is no way to open the menu, the game is effectively softlocked. The way I did this was to die at the same time as the last enemy in the room, the door opened, but it didn't properly switch to the game over state. As such, I'm just staring at the empty arena with the music playing, and the exit door open.
