There are a lot of sounds in games that all can be traced back far further than the games they're used in.
The sound you're hearing is probably like that.
THere's a lot of freedom of use sounds out there.
THe most popular in movies is the Wilhem Scream. :)
Fair use doesn't allow you to just take straight audio from games though, even more so when the copyright isstill valid and not in public domain yet.
The sound of doors opening in Doom is a public domain sound effect. It's used everywhere.
I'm simply pointing out it is more complicated than just saying it's a sound from pokemon.
It could be used in a multitude of different games.
You'd need a lot of effort to pull off the "It's illegal." part. :)
It's like the Wilhem scream. Public domain.
THat's what I'm saying.
Nintendo developed the cries of every pokemon, it is not some stock sound, it is still used in games today. If I knew the cries better, I'd be able to tell you which one but I don't know them that well.
I'm just guessing here.
We'll have to wait for the Dev to chime in.
There's a lot of reasons this could not be bad. :)
[/thread]
Uh, did you pay attention to the thread?
The odds of this actually being a sound from pokemon, and not being a mimic of the sound is really low.
The next lowest would be if Ninendo gave him permission.
We'll only really know once the Dev shows up and says.
No... it is a sound from pokemon.
I will also not take you seriously if you keep thinking there is no legal way to make this sound in this and have it legal.
You have to prove so many things in a court of law to even begin to make this a case for copyright infringement, and I'm only trying to ask you for barely anything in comparison.
Done maliciously, or by accident is the big deciding factor.
The sound may sound like a Pokemon scream, but I'm pretty sure I can create a sound in a computer program that completely sounds like the scream of a Pokemon from scratch, and I'm not even an auido engineer.
Mimic sounds exist.
Public Domain Sounds exist.
I'm sorry, but you have no evidence, so until you get the dev to reply, you have no grounds.
I'm not mistaken, I've been playing those games for the last 19 years. If I could go back and listen to that sound easily and compare it with the other Generation 1 pokemon, I'd be able to show you easily but that sound is definitally a pokemon sound. The evidence is in the game and then going to youtube and listening to the first generation pokemon sounds.
"Lukas used Dark Invitation"
"It's super effective!"
*Sound*
But I guess arrogance and stubborness will miss that kind of a thing in some people

We'll still have to find the Dev and get him to weigh in on it.
You don't work for Nintendo, and unless you do, all the power you have is simply to complain. That's it.
As soon as the Dev, which might take 30 years, replies to your post, and explains this, there's no reason to be uppity.
That said, if it turns out the dev used the sound by mistake, will you stop trying to set him on fire? :P
You're not Charizard.
Also, I apologize for my gruffness eariler, and my grumpiness. I need to stop writing when I am hungry. :)
Oh, and the Pokemon reference in here was nice to know about.
I still weigh in on the idea that the dev made a mistake.
That's not impossible.
