DxDiag:

- Installed DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) (Error report mentioned "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.DirectX.DirectInput".)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/download/details.aspx?id=8109
- Blocked Magicka.exe from accessing the internet.
- Disabled Steam overlay.
- Haven't set compatibility mode.
Managed a local co-op play-through with very few crashes.
Luck! Magicka is a classic. Worth keeping it running!
looks cool, but it's a pass for me, not spending money on stuff that isn't even proper fixed by the dev : /

Saw your reddit thread. Thanks for the patch! A bit of information I discovered myself quite some time ago, if you make the Magicka.exe "Large Address Aware" using this application:
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
You get less crashes. Link also has an explanation as to what it does and how large address aware stuff works. The source of the application is also available. Magicka is a 32 bit application unfortunately. With this patch, it has more RAM available. 4GB instead of 2GB iirc.
I don't know if this would still matter on your patched .exe but I figured it was worth mentioning.
crash happens when loading the level 50% of the time, was playing local co-op:
