i have the same problem.. i tried to run the game and then i get the pop-up window: magicka has stopped working etc.. i've done all of the things recommended in the forums, like installing the 2 programs from the dependecies folder, downloading xna 3.1 and dotnetfx35 from microsoft and also tried installing xna 4.0. i verified the cache, reinstalled 4 times, try running with and without compatibility... i've done everything and it doesn't work..

I encountered the same problem. Oddly enough, I installed and played a different game (Batman: Arkham Asylum), then went back and tried Magicka. It worked for some odd reason. I have no idea if that's even relevant, but that's all I did in between receiving that error message and getting the game to run.

would u check if that batman game installed any other software simillar to the dependecies in magicka? may be that'll work..

Solution : The game needs this -
1. Run windows explorer and navigate to your game folder
\SteamApps\common\Magicka\Dependencies
2. Run the installer xnafx31_redist.msi

Done.

As Head-Hunter says, the solution is this: Go where you installed the game, it has to be in SteamLibrary\SteamApps\Common at least in my case.
There, open the magicka folder and install xna first and then dotnetfx which are located in the dependencies folder.
I hope this can fix your problems :D

I did all he said, in the right order and such, still it won't work.
when i start the game, it will load and stuff, show the creators (u know that) but then, when the menu should load, game crashes.
what am I doing wrong?

i have your solution, though. XD its this: go to computer on the windows button. than go local disk. than go program files. than find steam. than go to the folder where you dowloaded magicka. than go steamapps. than go common. than go magicka. then go dependencies. than fix the program called xnafx31 redist, if you do not have this program installed but it still shows up there, just open it up and install it. this worked for me and i just dint have this program installed. hoped this helped :D

I solved this problem
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Magicka\Dependencies,and install the dependences...

If it dont fix, open the error log and read what is happened

Just download XNA 3.1 framework from microsoft website. Remember: it's 3.1, not 4.0 which is the latest one.
