Re-binding 'Shift'/Area Cast for our left-handed brethren
Has anyone figured out how to re-bind Shift? I rebound all of the spells to IOP[KL;' instead of QWERASDF so now I can cast spells with my right hand, but I still need to move my hand all the way to the left-side of the keyboard to press Shift so I can do an area cast. For some reason when I go to rebind the key in the game, it still reads it as a 'Left Shift'. Any ideas?

I removed your massive necro bump from the other thread since you already have this one.

That said, I have "Shift" bound to the Right Mouse button ever since I started playing and it always worked. I also rebound it to B just now to test your issue but couldn't reproduce.
Try a few different keys for "Shift" and if that doesn't work, you could use Autohotkey to make the key(s) of your choice send Shift.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm trying to re-bind it to Right Shift, just like I rebound Block to Right Control. For some reason when you press Right Shift it still reads it as Left Shift. I think it might be a bug, unless the problem is with my keyboard. Would you mind trying Right Shift?

Sorry for the necro!

I get the same results as you. Right Shift is recognised Left Shift.
Guess you'll have to use Autohotkey.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the suggestion! P.S. Do you know how I could file a bug report with Arrowhead?

Magicka isn't being updated anymore, you'd just waste your time.
Arrowhead is busy with Gauntlet and Pieces Interactive is developing Magicka 2.

So I figured out how to bind Shift/Area Cast to Right Shift!! I had to manually edit the Settings.sav file though. Here's how to do it:

1. Download the stand-alone/portable hex editor called HxDen (I used version 1.7.7.0)
2. Open up the Settings.sav file (\SteamApps\common\Magicka\SaveData\) in HxD
3. Find the second space after the QWER ASDF line. That is the character that corresponds to Shift/Arena Cast. Replace that no-break space with inverted exclamation mark, ¡.
4. Save the file and then close out of HxD.
5. DONE! :D

Here's some screenshots of how the Settings.sav file looked like in HxD before and after I changed all of my keys:

P.S. The way I figured it out was by changing the Shift/Arena Cast key from Left Shift to Right Ctrl and then to Left Ctrl, and then looking at how the Settings.sav file changed. This table helped me figure out what the possible value of Right Ctrl could be:

= left shift
¡ = right shift
¢ = left control
£ = right control
