Magicka

I just want to play the demo...
"

The original error was:
System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory.
This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

at delete(Void* )
at SteamWrapper.SteamApps.GetCurrentGameLanguage()
at Magicka.Xna.Framework.Game.Run()
at Magicka.Program.Main(String[] args)

"

What am I suppose to make of this?

EDIT:

Try installing the game outside the Program Files (x86) directory.

Have you tried running it as admin?

That made no discernible difference.

Maybe (re-)install XNA Framework? It's somewhere in your game directory, just don't have it installed atm (new HD with fresh install, have to re-install many games.. :(), so can't check where exactly, but iirc there were people with a similar problem now and then, and I think by (re)installing XNA they got it fixed.

Edit: just checked with a friend who has it on drive, there is a directory called "dependencies" inside your Magicka directory (possible
program files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common/Magicka), just go in there and execute dotnetfx35.exe and xnafx31_redist.msi - maybe that will solve your problem, if not, check back here, in my experience there are always people here that like to help others. ;)

Oh yeah, and before I forget - you are sure you not trying to play the game with an integrated graphics adapter (intel graphics f.e.)? Although then normally you get an error msg reading something like "Texture width or height is larger than the device supports".

Had the exact same issue with the demo and could not resolve. Took the plunge and bought anyway because of low sale price, and it is working just fine. Great game so far.

I have come across that as a possible solution, and it didn't help. And I picked the parts myself, definitely not the graphics setup you suggested.

I'm tempted, but I'd much rather confirm my own enjoyment with the demo. I wouldn't be nearly as patient if I did not know Wizard Wars was going to be free. Waiting on that, then the demo can take a hike. :P

I got the game last night and it works fine, I had the exact same error as you did. The demo is wacko.

Sorry I forget to add, after you execute those packages in the dependencies folder, also execute the directx file you found there. Then after that, start Steam, select the game (demo), rightclick -> properties -> verify game cache.

At least this is the solution for this problem on the full game, but I think it was also suggested for the demo. If the demo does not contain these files, it's worth a shot to get them from someone who has the full game or somewhere online.
