The main positive thing about Magicka 2 would be the visuals, much smoother. But again, the campaign is quite short and there isn't as much different areas as there is in the first game. Soundtracks are good in the two games. Now that I think about it, Magicka 2 feels much more like an introduction to the concept, whereas Magicka 1 would be the main game. Put side by side, and for the price difference, Magicka 1 is far more interesting. Also, Magicka 1 has great DLCs, that are quite challenging honestly, but really fun. And there's regularly sales on the complete bundle.
A few keywords:
Game crashes: M1 crashes way more often than M2 (fact)
Multiplayer stability and player base size: M2 > M1 (fact)
Difficulty: M2 is harder than M1 (subjective)
Humour quality: M1 is funnier than M2 (subjective)
And perhaps m1 would be better than m2 if not for the network problems I keep hearing people complain about (not that m2 is free of them either). Megonka 2 maybe short, but it is varied enough to keep me going back to it again and again. In Mygica 2 you have less viable spell combos, but also none of them are really broken, it is all about the strategy how you approach different enemies and spells one uses are just a step in that strategy,
Magocka 2 is harder and is less viable for solo play. I AM NOT SAYING THIS to undermine the skill of m1 players. But hearing from seasoned m1 players it appears to me that enemies in m1 are weaker due to the fact that a player in m1 has more damage potential. And the fact that one has a way to make themselves invincible and dish out damage at the same time in Majika 2 makes for a different play style. Not to mention that some M2 challenges prohibit reviving yourself or your familiar.

It is amazing how many times Magicka was misspelled without repeating the same mistake.
Was that on purpose???
