Option to install old version?
Apparently the newest "patch" focusing on "bug fixes" caused a variety of game crashing bugs when attempting to play multiplayer. Is there an option to revert to an old version? I remember when Rise of Nations devs broke multiplayer players figured out that steam offers the option to revert to an old version and thus fix the "patch". If I remember correctly it was going on game settings and taking a beta version of the game but Magicka doesn't offer anything like it.

Thanks in advance!

I just refund this game like Magicka 2, and send a text to Steam and Paradox
This is not normal to buy 2 games and didn't have access to Online

Not to mention one of the main selling points is interaction with friends:steamsad:

A quick search yielded this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1086279994 At first glance it seems to be rather laborious though.

Oh boi
Well, if it works I suppose it's worth it. Will give it a try once I have some free time

If you got around to trying, did it fix it at all?

The crashing has made it practically unplayable in MP... though I never played the old versions so I don't know if this crashing is normal (presumablly not).

I've went through all the steps and downgraded the game to a half year older version. Tested it for 15 minutes and it didn't crash in single player. Lobbies in internet multiplayer were visible, but locked, and couldn't join any game. This is probably because of different versions of the game. As long as it won't crash, it seems fine to me, as I only play local multi using pads with friends.

Did you just get the magicka_content depot? And was it the July 3rd build?

I've tried a few things there but still getting crashes :/

I've used :
42911 magicka_bin
and
42912 magicka_content
oldest available from 2018, I think it was from July.
After it downloads, you have to remember to manually move files from downloaded directory to game directory.

I don't know if it won't crash occasionally, but it surely worked better than with 2018 Dec./Nov./Oct. update.

Thanks, got to chapter 3 without a crash so far. Gonna have to try MP.

It was the "March 29, 2018 – 13:51:59 UTC 9 months ago" one that I used.

I know this isn't great for the developers though because now the nice improvements won't be tested as much. Thinking of just trying to play with the new versions and just have a backup ready with the 2013 version. So I can send crash reports ETC.

What improvements? The unplayable, broken game which lasts in this state for about two or more months should be called an improvement? I bought this game and I demand it to work. This is ridiculous, especially that it had worked just fine in the past, and now developers have broken it and they seem not to care!

If anyone is interested, I made a Magicka specific guide for downgrading (just easier/quicker... a bit simplified). Still working on it but I believe all the main stuff is there.
Just thought some people might prefer just copy-pasting the correct console commands rather than finding the IDs themselves and everything.

Good job :]!

Thanks. Let me know how trying the March 2018 build goes.
The newer the version, the better since we'll have more features and bug fixes. It seems like more issues were introduced with only the newer builds from what I've seen.

It's broken, I agree. But the features they added (needed to look at the patch notes before to determine if I should go for 2013 or not) are pretty nice to have if it worked. Like the hot join where people can just join midgame.

Ps: If you can't be bothered to downgrade yourself I can just send you the .zip file. Needed to upload it to my google drive for my friends anyway.

Can you post the link for the file here? Perhaps the version just before the last one would be optimal since it has the most bug fixes (or I hope so at least)

I tried 1.9.0.2 and that one was horrible and I might need to check more versions if I care. It's working already pretty well with what I have. Singleplayer worked without crashes and multiplayer worked as well in the 2018 March version.

The 2013 version had crashes after a long time of playing. I'll just add you as a friend temporarily as I don't really want to annoy the developers.

EDIT: Done it differently :].

Thank you ^_^

Btw, why not just post the link here?

Dowloading the files c:

Even so it's not breaking any rules FAIK

I'm curious if they do anything about it, but of course they care and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to distribute copyrighted material online.
If the devs do nothing about it, it just makes life easier for us but it also makes life easier for anyone that wants to crack the game.

If they don't seem to do anything after a while, mind if I put that link in the guide, Lifell?
