The Swamp

I was kind of disappointed by how easy the Survival mode is in the swamp. I gold starred each fish on my first try except I believe I got ganked once by an Arrowana as a baby (though I don't remember which fish I was on).

That said, I love the pike's hunting behaviour and how he stalks you. He's so cool and scary! As in, I am actually scared irl when I see him on the screen. I love how he appears slowly out of the murk, facing right toward me. He's sucking me into the game which is awesome and adding to my enjoyment.

One thing I have to question though is whether Devour does anything. It didn't really help me as a carp and when I unlocked all the fish and wanted to be an Arrowana myself, by the time I can suck a Tiger Barb or Tetra it is worthless to me to eat one and I had moved up to eating carps. I did get a lot of use out of Tiger Barbs and Tetras but I always had to bite them and then open them because I couldn't suck them yet.

I'm not sure I'm a fan of the new much slower scaling because they really don't want you to grow a lesser fish huge and I loved doing it. One thing I know I would change about it is size increases because they used to be logical to what you could eat and you could kind of tell if it was smaller than you. Now you can get huge and if you are on a mid fish like Piranha you'll be twice the size of like an Alligator Gar but you can't eat him because his base damage is so high and your HP is still so low. It's the fact that your HP scales so poorly that really seals it.

Also what is that little zippy golden fish and why can't I play him and why is there ever only one of him? I've been calling him the Golden Snitch lol.

I used to try to grow a pink fish as big as I could on the Great map and I had a lot of fun.

Also, please let us play the Rainbow Bleak in the river! When I saw the silhouette that was locked and looked just like a Bleak I thought it was a Rainbow Bleak that was locked, but it was just the regular blue Bleak again.

Carp doesn't have Devour, it has bottom feeder, and for other fish it lets you eat fish nearly as big as they are in a single gulp.

Any tips? Im trying survival and do nothing but die, only one bronze so far 😂

Tiger barb - follow around a carp as a tiger barb while occasionally eating small things, the carp will eventually dig something up for you.

When laying your eggs choose and out of the way spot where nobody will find them.


Carp - Play like a tiger barb until you look like an adult, then go around looking for bottom food.

When laying your eggs also put them somewhere where nobody will find them.


Alligator gar - Scavenge until you look like an adult, then slowly work your way up from small prey up to everything else in the swamp, avoid the catfish, muskelunge and snakehead until you're bigger than them.

When laying your eggs put them nearby to food, but make sure the soon to be food can't eat them.

1. Unless you are the arrawana, stay the heck away from the arrawana. This applies until you're big enough so that he can't just suck you.

2. If the pike sees you, reset, because you're dead. (You *can* play challenge mode by letting him see you and still attempting to do your quests but he will be chasing you until he gets you. I find this fun. I call it "terror mode" - I bite him once and run.)

3. Always look around, even while you're eating. If you turn while chomping you don't lose any efficiency chomping. Also you can grab your food and run away to eat it so you don't just get sucked (but you're so encumbered and slow it might not be worth doing).

4. If there's a guy you can just barely kill but seeing 2 will kill you, kill him, BUT DON'T OPEN HIM. Hide his body in a cave or something. This way he won't respawn. If he respawns it means somebody else opened him.

5. The giant lizard skull close to the shallow end is the entrance to a kind of a safe zone if you are a little fish. Big fish barely come here.

6. Even if you are a little fish, or a small carp, you can endurance hunt other little fish. Bite, chase, bite, chase, until he's dead.
