won't start, possibly direct x issue - d3dx9_42.dll
Just installed SOTS Complete on a brand-new Windows 10 computer, but it won't start - under steam, nothing happens after the CD-key-showing; if I go directly to the executable, it gives a d3dx9_42.dll not found error. Any suggestions?

Following up: working now. Not sure which step actually mattered, but I uninstalled (and then had to manually delete leftover directory.) Then installed another game (Sins of a Solar Empire) that, among other things, seemed to be doing some directx installation. Then reinstalled SOTS and it seems to work. Not sure it it was the reinstall, or SOSE installing some key directx thing, or what.

For a whilte after Win8 came out - you had to manually install DX9 - didn't come with it.
May still be the case (and yeah, if another game installed DX9, Sots would work).

Find DirectX9 and install it.

That is how I worked around this issue.
