Speech Skill Manditory? Seriously?
So... Yeah... more than half of the quests I have found (literally) force you to have the speech skill or they are unsolvable. This is flat out ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t, wish I had known this before playing for 7 hours with a character that doesn't have/use the skill...

You can complete the game easily without relying on persuasion.

There might be quests which are not completable without high enough persuasion, but the game is not designed so that all quests are completable with all characters... In fact, you cannot complete all quests with any one character.

I am sure you can beat the game without completing/doing any side quests- that however is not why most people play RPG's and also had nothing to do with my point (I never said "i can't finish the game without the skill" but "I can't finish most quests without it"- what you did there was create a straw man).

So far the only quests I could not/cannot complete are those tied to persuasion (a half a dozen) which means that if you want to get the most out of this game the skill really does become a manditory skill. Nothing wrong with that, just wish that I had known just how important it really is- just like I wish I had known how worthless bows seem to be. At best you get 2-4 shots on someone before they walk up to you and at worst you get 2-4 shows before the enemy 2-4 ultra blasts you (with whatever long range they use) to death.

If/when I play again I will for sure won't be using accuracy and will be using persuasion... Possibly throwing together a small makeshift guide explaining as well.

I was not trying to create a strawman. All I was trying to say is that you can enjoy the game without persuasion. There are some quests which need it, but you can finish most without it. And even if you don't have high enough persuasion, usually you can find an alternative solution to the situation in question. (Admittedly, it might not be the 'best' solution.)

Alright, trying to figure out alternate methods to solve... currently at a loss

Which quests do you have problems with?
Ssenkrad_II Jun 20, 2016 @ 10:14am
-get the little girl to the recruiter (shoehorned myself here without realizing it)
-find the murderer (gem lady)
-give the gloves to the wizard

etc, etc, etc...

With the recruiter, your original quest is to bring the boy. Which can be done without persuasion.
With the gloves, you need persuasion to bribe the assistant. However, that's not the only way.
The Nobleman's inheritance quest is complex, and I haven't designed any of the quests, so I don't know if there is a resolution to it without persuasion. However, that's two out of three 'problematic' quests which can be solved without persuasion. :)

Yeah, as I said with 1, I showhorned myself and now I can't go back (was no way to know I WAS doing this until it was too late)

Unsure about number 2... not reading any more options here

3 I read that all you need to do to solve the quest is talk to the gem lady with high speech- not very complex at all, just need the skill

Those were the three I could remember from memory and only 1 of the three you gave solutions to other than speech and I obviously already knew the "other" solution to that one because I mentioned getting myself stuck... Will look again when I play again...

I think it's more fun to find the solutions for yourself, that's why I haven't given any. But if you are interested, there are guides on our forums (just select 'forums' on the main menu). Actually there are two other solutions to get to the Archmage, besides persuading his assistant. :)

Also, you don't need to start a new game to solve the quests which require persuasion. There are trainers in game who will train you in the various skills. You can find one which trains you high enough, then go back and finish the quests.

I know this is from half a month ago, but just find a persuasion trainer. Talk to innkeepers and maybe the street ladies. I think there's a trainer who can get persuasion to 20 in the first town, and 30 in the second.

Not being able to beat every quest as a single character is a die hard rpg quality many of us enjoy. I hope you find a way to enjoy the game the way you want to, but I enjoyed multiple playthroughs of quest on the IPAQ 3630 as different characters. Decided to pick this gem back up on steam to see how it aged almost 10 years later. Very few cRPGS I can remember that were able to give the player a pretty strong feeling of having real control over the game world.

Wow, dead forum if this just got necro'd... Can you name one other old RPG that had quests given to the player that they literally could never complete?

Fallout
Fallout 2

Noob lmao

Owned, played, and loved Fallout and Fallout 2 and you are incorrect... There isn't a single quest in either that became "unable to complete" and yet still stuck around in your journal as if you could still complete it or had "more to do" with it...

At the very least tell me "quest failed" and remove it from active quests.

-Find Children spy in the Followers in FO1
-Finding Sulik's sister in FO2
-Having 1 or 2 intelligence in certain parts of both games
