Difficulty and necessary reflexes.
How hard this game is?
I am not into bullet hell and reflex games at all, so I like casual speed and difficulty only.
Can you compare it in speed to other games, like Binding of Isaac, Spelunky, Forced: Showdown?
Thanks.

I played Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon for example. personally I prefer Neon Chrome over both of them, mainly because NC feels more like an awesome top down shooter than a bullet hell game. I think the main reasons are that the health system is more nuanced than the 1hit=1heart system of the aforementioned, bullets travel at a more realistic pace (plasma shots go slower and can be dodged like in a bullet hell game, smg fire not so much), weapons are upgradeable throughout a run and you are not locked in a room until all enemies are gone.
you have unlimited ammo which makes your asenal and the destruction (physics system is awesome) very satisfying.
you only have one life but the game saves your progress when you leave which is very comfortable.
regarding overall game speed, it starts out very fair. the "hardest" part is to get to know the different enemy types and their weapons and your own preference in playstyle (you can even stealth if you like, I prefer Cyber Psycho). after each full run you can go up one Overseer-Level which increases enemy speed/health/damage as well as the chances for better loot.

I play on OS6 right now and recently started a completely new game with a friend. and once you reached the higher OS levels you really don`t want to go back. it is just crazy destruction and awesome fire fights :D

sorry for the wall of text btw ;)

I don't mind the wall of text, thank you for the detailed answer!
I never really got into Binding of Isaac, mainly beacuse on the 1hit-1heart system. Call me a noob, I am just not nimble enough for these type of games. For this reason, I did not buy Gungeon too.

It is good to year about game speed, I ofc checked videos too.

I bought the game now and looking forward to play it.

If you are interested, FORCED: Showdown is also a quite nice game in this genre, imho underrated.

I`m a noob in that regard as well, or just not enough of a masochist I guess ;)
but enter the gungeon was fun for a while. I even missed the dodge roll of EtG at first when playing NC. but the flow and dynamics of the firefights in higher OS levels are the most entertainment I had in a video game for quite a while. I would even rank it above DOOM 2016, but that is highly subjective of course.

thanks for the tipp, I will check out Forced asap. there is a severe lack of these kind of games unfortunately. btw it`s not a top down shooter but somehow similar in spirit: check out EDF 4.1 when it is on sale ;)

cheers and have fun!

I've only played the demo version, but this isn't a game that take lightning reflexes.

What it takes is being careful, good thinking, and not rushing into dangerous situations foolishly. I think as long as you are cautious, use all your equipment and abilities smartly, you'll be fine.

Thank you too, it's good news, I'll definitely try it.

This game is much better than Enter the Gungeon. Similar pacing and controls, but Neon Chrome has a much better health system, better weapons, better abilities, better melee, better story....

Neon Chrome is also much more forgiving than something like Teleglitch.

Well, the boss battles in this game DO require some special reflexes imho. I'd never call Neon Chrome a "casual" game, though like others I struggle to this day to make any substantial progress in Enter the Gungeon. I revisited that, and did a little better, but never Got Gud. As I'm lectured to do in just about every frustrating difficulty game on Steam. :steamhappy:

I'm afraid I never have the time to really "git gud", so usually I end up leaving that game forever.
I played Binding of Isaac for 8 hours without ever beating the first world... I didn't have the patience to keep on trying. :steamsad:

I finally started playing. You were right, it is not a reflex game, but man this is hard...
I could get only to lvl 3 in like 1,5 hours!
But ofc I'll keep trying, although I can hardly imagine to reach the final level with one life...

Okay, almost beat the first boss now! :)
I think this is an amazing game, you just need a few hours to properly get the hang of is.

You can kinda grind to make the game easier, by permanently upgrading your health/damage, etc.

For casuals like me, grinding like this is not an option but a necessity. :)
Otherwise, the game is enjoyable.
