Newbie Question, locked "Hacks" room -- bug or my incompetence?
I'm terrible at this game, even after 90 minutes of play. Haven't made it past level 2 of stage 1. I always restart at level 1, stage 1. Ok. It's fine stress relief and I love the 80s-90s CP mood.

I think I understand that I need to make it past three floor layouts (level three of stage 1) to access the locked upgrade dispensers behind the asset chair. Right? I think I can do this.

What I don't understand is how I get into the locked Hacks room beside the asset chair. There's a locked door, and I get a purple message "Stop Overseer 1.0 to access." Does this mean I need to beat the entire Overseer 1.0 level of the game--i.e. 32 levels, 6 stages? I'm puzzled because when I watch intro videos, it seems like all these Youtubers have access to the Hacks room to see their upgrades and stats, even if they're just starting out and only survive a few floor layouts.

I have googled and googled this but haven't found anything.

That's it, you need to beat Overseer 1.0 for unlock the Hacks room. It's the place where after you'll be able to switch between the version of Overseer you have unlock. First 1.0 and 2.0 , then 3.0 when you'll beat the v 2.0, etc ..

So it seems that most of Youtubers play in Overseer 2.0 or more, not in 1.0.

Oh dear! I'm having so much trouble just with the first two floor layouts, I can't imagine getting through 30+! Maybe it will seem more plausible once I unlock the upgrade dispensers.

I do have a lot of money to spend when the time comes.

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it and unlock some good stuff. I reccomend sticking with Techies for your first 1-2 Overseers. Their recovering shield is great untill you get better at dodging and unlock the good healing enhancements.

I don't think I've tried Techies yet. I liked Hackers at first, for the drone and the ability to unlock cash and goodies. Then I like Assassins for their sneakiness, which seemed to save me some health and get me farther. I'll try a Techie next time it comes up! I definitely need to think more about dodging, as well.

In my experience, Assasin is the only one that's good at late Overseers, but Techie is the training wheels class.

Assassin is good at late Overseers, but i think Cyber psycho is better. if you start with the skill Nano chameleon skin who alloy you to be invisble when stationnary. Perfect for shot and cover at every corner . Crit +20% is a minor buff when you have already more of 200% without that. (I'm in Overseer 7, with only 8 dead asset).

I've made Overseer 1.0 to 3.0 with Hacker for grabbing more money and upgrade quickly my stats, even if the drone sucks imo. Soldat is good also with is 20% reduce damage this is more stronger than the shield of Techies. I'll say the most difficult on the start is to deal with the shield guard or rocket guard when they are in group. If you take advantage of environnement for cover and avoid bullet fight with ton of mobs, the game can be easy.

I just had an awesome (for me) level using a Techie *like* I was using an Assassin. Cleared the floor with sneaking, watchful patience, and sniping, and only took 1 point of damage because I forgot that the enemy could target me through thin walls, too. But then the next level sent Reinforcements and I panicked.

Thanks for the advice. Good to know there's hope!

(*laughing* So with Asset #60 I finally made it through to Level 3. Corporate Soldier who found an "Awesome" laser weapon and lucked out and never ran into reinforcements. Oh, the upgrades I bought with cash from Assets 1-59. Maybe there should be a Frequent Flyers achievement. Or Resource Mismanagement or something like that.)

Want to know what works for me or would you rather discover things for yourself?

I'm interested in early level tips, although I think part of my problem is simply physical: I'm clumsy at fast left hand keyboard navigation. I am discovering, bit by bit, new things that work for me, esp. now that I'm allowed to buy upped stats and gear. . Reinforcements no longer scare me. Find a cleared, narrow place to hang out and pick 'em off one by one. I've made it to level 4/5 and met Shelob. Oh dear. :-)

Bosses are mostly pushovers once you see them and know what to expect. Shelob tacs: Keep that small room between your asset and Shelob untill it reloads, then pop out and shoot it untill it starts shooting back. When you get it to change pahse and start spinning, just keep shooting, you should be able to live through that with minimal damage (I might be thinking of Overseer 2.0 when I had fully upgraded health and damage that I did that, if you find yourself dying while doing that, um, sorry). Phase 2 uses dodgeable plasma, so try not to break any walls during that phase because phase 3 uses very deadly and difficult to dodge bullets, you'll want something to absorb them.

I don't think buying gear that early is the best idea, probably better to invest in stats.
Have you tried out Techie? I really think that shield is a must have untill you're confident you can dodge most things.

Thanks, alexshiro. I think I'm finally getting it! I'm past the Centipede (got through it, in multiple senses, on my second try) and on to level 10. Techie was handy for a while, but I'm liking Assassin more and more. I'm a slowww player anyway. I don't mind scouting and watching and sniping. Hiding and listening to that chill cyberpunk music until their backs are turned. :-)
