Insturment/Genre combos?

So, apparently, all you can have at the beginning are the karaoke mic, accoustic guitar, electric bass, and keyboard. I don't know which insturment is good for what, though. So far all I've been able to figure out is that Accoustic+Blues, and Keyboard+Classical work really well, but Keyboard+Electronic, and Accoustic+anything else don't seem to go over well at all.
Even the obvious choices get me negative responses, like Electris Bass+Rock/Metal or Mic+Hiphop. What!?

Basically, have any of you figured out combos that work, and if so, am I bound to certen genres in the early game untill other insturments unlock? Do I have to spam Blues songs untill I get the electric guitar before I can have a successful Metal song?

Thanks for the statement. While I understand that adding additional instruments (which specialize in some music genres) would be too much work/balance it is of course confusing not to be able to use all suitable instruments.
Anyway... the balacing issues are understandable. Thanks for explaining this.
