why would you want to record sound that comes from the opposite direction of you
?

( i think mono is one)
Depending on the type of video, it'll be different.
pretty sure omni is good for vlogs
If you're interviewing a person, then you want the mic to be recording from two directions, you and the other person.
If you're doing a "vlog", then you can get the omnidirectional so that it's capturing the sounds of your surroundings.
If I understand you right, the points I get for using mono/stereo should vary depending on what I'm recording.
