But I digress, I am super excited to continue playing. Horror is so rare and run and hide horrors even more so so I suspect I will have a hard time disliking the game overall :)
I played Clock Tower, First Fear, Clock Tower 2, Clock Tower 3, and Haunting Ground. This game is most comparable to Clock Tower 2, partially for some crypticness and some references/full 3D point'n'click, but I think there are some wonderful scenes, especially in the later half of the game.
Make of that what you will.
People die in bizarre and novel ways, that are more often than not fairly funny when combined with the heroine's reactions. It's like horror video game comfort food, it's more satisfying than scary, with gruesome environments that draw you in and intrigue more than unsettle you.
