in map editor, not able to place items in chests (patch 0.17.31 or 0.17.X)
the question is: is it a bug, or are you just not able to place stuff in a chest, in editor mode anymore??

me and my friends generally allways edit a map, before we start playing it, and adding 3 chest, of each color belt inserters, that you cant build ingame.

Pretty sure it's not a bug, looks like a missing feature.

Here's a (somewhat annoying, but working) workaround I devised about a month ago in answer to that question:

1) Go to the "Entities" tab.
1) Place an Infinity chest (from the "?" category).
2) Set the chest filters (items and amounts).
3) Switch to the "time" tab.
4) Click the "Tick once" button. This will fill the chest with filter items.
5) Now you can take items from the Infinity chest and place them wherever.
The downside is that it advances the game by a tick every time you repeat the procedure. Also, it's a lot of fiddling around for something that should be a two-click procedure.

Presumably you can also use a cheat to directly add the items to your inventory, then place them into a chest. Cheat codes and internal item names you'll need to use them can be found on the wiki.

Note that your inventory shows up only for some tab selections (e.g., it shows when you're in the "Time" tab, but not when you're in the "Entities" tab).

You mean loaders? Didn't notice you asked about them specifically, sorry. They aren't available in vanilla to begin with (can't recall if you can build them in the editor anyway?).

You'll need to use either a console command, or a mod that adds them to the game, e.g. Loader Redux[mods.factorio.com]. As a plus, you'll be able to research and produce them normally, and they'll look much nicer.

Alternatively, I think you can use the Creative Mod[mods.factorio.com] as well. Enable the mod, add chests of loaders, disable the mod. After disabling it, you're officially playing vanilla again (vanilla achievements work etc.).
