This appears to be TLS handshake failure in schannel, the Windows OS component responsible for TLS-protected HTTP traffic encryption/decryption.

The game's logs specifically tell you:
More detail may be available in the Windows System event log

So; have you looked there?

Additionally, I notice that you're running the game on Windows 7. Windows 7 is no longer kept updated and it is stuck on outdated TLS protocol versions and outdated cipher suites (different encryption formats). If Factorio shored up security to only allow for TLS protocol versions or cipher suites that are not yet supported by Windows 7, then a secure connection can't be negotiated and this is the error you'd likely get.

This type of error has popped up multiple times before when cloudflare had outages of some servers and was fixed by waiting a few hours or a day so cloudflare could fix their servers.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

ran into this recently with EVGA XR1 software.
"The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel."

so moving forward with Factorio, we'll have to either manually update the libraries or 'upgrade' to win10 for multi-player? :steamfacepalm:

[edit] i may just switch to Debian.

Ah. I guess it was only a matter of time until that happened.

You could switch to linux too if you dislike win10. I have been on ubuntu(recently switched to kde desktop without even having to reinstall the os) for well over a year on my main computer and while there are some stupid problems and a few games where multiplayer just does not work I will not be installing windows on it. I Just assembled a secondary win10 computer from spare parts to run those few games that do not work on linux.

Tough if I was installing linux for the first time right now I would go with plain debian with the kde desktop.

lol PunCrathod i edited while you were typing. yeah debian is my go to distro since ubunto comes with spy/adware. yes you can 'opt-out' but F that.

So problem is basicly windows 7 is outdated and game has issue with it. Not a big deal I already managed to manually install some mods via official website so this issue not important. Thank you.

You can just install a few optional updates to get the necessary TLS protocol versions and cipher suites supported on Windows 7.

Having said that: pigheadedly continuing to using an outdated OS which is no longer receiving security updates and which by now has probably accrued quite a backlog of exploitable security holes? Not the smartest decision in the world.

To each their own, but I'd just drink the Kool-Aid and move to Windows 10. And if you have real insurmountable issues with that, move to a consumer-friendly Linux desktop distro.

I've already updated the main post and shared the link that fixes this issue. Its just a personal preference. I like win7 and I wasn't aware that the issue was OS related. I have already win10 installed as a secondary OS.

I encountered the same problem. I noticed that everything works with VPN enabled. I went into the router settings and by trial and error I found out that I need to disable MAC address clone. After that everything worked without VPN.
