Dimming screen while moving
I've recently purchased a new monitor, and I've noticed a noticeable screen dimming and slight tearing on Factorio since I got it.

I've tried changing the settings and nothing seems to be helping. Any help would be appreciated.

By any chance, is your new monitor either ultra high definition (4k and such) and/or 144+ Hz?

It is WQHD 144hz monitor. Is this a common issue with this game?

There was a thread about various issues with high frequency monitors (given that the game is capped at 60 FPS) with a few solutions that worked for a portion of the people so it's worth giving it a read:

Sadly nothing there has helped.

The issue I keep getting is everything in the game gets noticeably darker while moving, I can minimise the issue by changing my monitor to 1080, but it's still there.

I've ended up having to change my monitors resolution as when I opened the map the flickering was unbearable. :')

There has been quite a few reports of this by now.
Hopefully Wube will have a look when they get back from vacation.

What vacation? Since 1.0 came out the longest gap in the bugs resolved for next release forum has been 2 days. And the average bugs resolved per day has been over 5.

Also I don't think Wube can do anything anybody else can't about cheap monitors causing artifacts like this.

I'm having the same issue but I blamed it on my setup (playing through local stream + dual monitor)

I mean my monitor isn't cheap.

I've been reading around and it seems like this is a common issue, and looking back at my previous setup it was doing it slightly then too only it's far less noticeable at 1080 over 1440, so It may be an issue with how I've got the monitors set up but as this is literally the only game that has had this issue across any of my monitors I'm not sure what I can do to fix it.

It's just baffling how apparently this is a common issue and nobody has really found a fix.

Not solved before tested. Is there a 1.0.0+ version we can try or am I missing somehting?

Keep in mind that this is an issue apparently dating back to 0.15 for some people.

Unless you tell the make and model I'm going to assume its the first thing that comes up on google with the search "WQHD 144hz". And boy is that a cheap monitor. For 144Hz anything below $500 is cheap. And there are also plenty of above $500 that have cheaped out on things that can can cause these kinds of issues. This is very clearly a hardware issue on the monitors. I mean if it was not an issue on the monitor then you would see the same effects when recording with a screen capture software. So far no one has been able to produce such recordings.

The exact model of my monitor is a MSI Optix AG32CQ.

The main issue I am having is that it only happens with Factorio and literally no other game I've tried. It's also an issue I am now noticing with my two older monitors/TVs but they were less noticeable, and once again it's only majorly noticeable when on 1440.

It's not really a major issue as I can just change the resolution when playing Factorio, but it's just something I've noticed from a few people around and so far nobody has given anyone a great fix that helps.

A quick google search and a lot of people complain how cheaply made and blurry/flickery that monitor is. And at ~$350 for a curved 1440p 144Hz is cheap. A lot of reviewers called it "1440p at a budget".

It's also a VA panel and those are known to have issues with black smearing. Especially the cheaper ones. It's an effect where dark pixels take much longer to change color/brightness than bright pixels. And the textures in factorio have a lot of dark pixels everywhere so no wonder you are seeing what you are seeing.
