Complete computer freeze on exit (Linux)

This problem has been around for some time. Does anyone know if it is going to be adressed as it is pretty annoying? Anyone have temporary fix for this?

What happens?
When you click Exit/close window with 'X' etc. computer completely freezes. Only "solution" is to hard reset it. It has something to do with Nvidia GPU hanging whole video and input as Linux is running fine underneath (restart is needed anyway). It's clearly caused somehow by Factorio as this hasn't happened with any other game/program. I'd guess that some part of low level graphics API is used incorrectly in the game engine. This freeze happened also one time in menu while game was in background. Apart from this problem game works great. Also it doesn't happen every time (well, almost everytime). Playing the game then exiting or just staying in menu for a second and exiting doesn't matter - in both cases the game freezes.

What have been tried with no success?

• windowed mode/minimalized window before exiting/vsync off
  
• turning off/on Steam Cloud sync
  
• "exiting" game with `pkill -9 factorio` - yup, even this don't help

Hope this get's fixed as playing the game knowing that you will most likely have to reset the PC on exit is just bad.

Since no one answered and I haven't found any workarounds on the web I've came up with my own workaround. So far it worked 3 times out of 3 :)!

• Save you work, close apps etc. (I don't give 100% guarantee it will always work)
  
• Switch to TTY by pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[F1]
  
• Log in (put your username/password)
  
• Run `pkill factorio` (yup, no -9 needed :D)
  
• If everything went fine you still should be able to write commands (for example check if factorio is dead with `pgrep factorio` - should return no output)
  
• Switch back to GUI by pressing [CTRL]+[ALT]+[F7]

Factorio should be closed and system should be responsive!

So, I've found this toppic while searching for encounter simmilar to mine.

I've had exactly same problem on Windows machine. Nvidia user too.
Never had problems before, but I was not using graphic card, since cooling upgrade I can use my card (finnaly, lol) and it happend first time.

Exactly what happend is :
I closed factorio by x button (didn't wanted to un-minimize it and exit properly) - but it failed.
Game started using 100% CPU and kept working,
I opened task manager and ordered it to close factorio,
than I got standard pop up about closing process might result in unstable system,
I accepted it and it was kind of blured when whole PC freezed. I guess like 2 frames of that window bluring out passed and than perma freeze happend.

I guess It might have been graphical output problem only, but on windows we don't have ctrl+alt+f1, so we will never know hahah.

What's strange is I've never seen any program freezing whole PC
