Generating a map preview causes massive CPU temp increase
Don't know if it has been reported previously, but every time I generate a new map in the preview my CPU temp rises up by 10 degrees celsius (before going back down). I actually my my whole computer crash by generating a bunch of map in a row.

The map generation preview screen actually uses all of your CPU cores to generate the map preview as fast as possible, in contrast to a running game where it only uses at most one core.

A temporary increase in CPU temperature is likely, but if you actually managed to crash your whole PC by doing that then it's your PC's fault, not Factorio. Some CPU benchmarks (e.g. Prime95) are used for "stress testing" and will tax your PC even further, so if the map preview screen alone is enough to kill your PC then you should invest in better cooling.

As Daniel writes; If a program can overheat your CPU, it's the computer's fault, not the program.

Edit: How is 10 degrees C a massive increase? If that is enough to bring your computer down, then it is running too close to its limit even before you launch Factorio.

You missread what I wrote, a single generation increased the temp by around 10°C, making several generations in a quick succession increased the temperature enough for my computer to automatically shutdown.

Oh. Yes I did. But still not Factorio's fault.
How high did the temp get and what is your CPU?

If your cooler can't bring your CPU temperature back down after generation then either the cooler is improperly installed or it is underspecced for the CPU.

It's nothing fancy, it's a Ryzen 1700 with the stock cooler (which is actually supposed to be quite good). I've never experienced a crash before, including several benchmarking software. And that's with an overclock that brought the frequency up to 3.8 ghz for all 8 cores that's been running in several taxing softwares for the last months without any issues.

Then again it's no big deal, I just though it was worth mentionning.

And I've never said that I was necessarily Factorio's fault. ;)
