Game Not Starting

I uninstalled and re-installed the game and now it will not start. Every time I try to open it, it says it's starting, but it never does. And when I try to run it steam says its running and then it just stops. And it doesnt say its running anymore.

No. Only the one it starts you with. The one that says something like "basic" or something like that.

"Base Mod". That's fine. I'm asking because mods don't disappear with an uninstall.
Look in %appdata%\Factorio\mods\ for left-overs.

I have no mods. It started once on 14.23 but only once

Then by all mean post your log, it might help tracking down the issue a lot better than just posts saying "it doesn't work".

There probably is no log. If this is 0.15 and Factorio doesn't start at all it's this issue:

My game doesn't start at all (no window/log file)

Some programs interfere with Factorio and prevent it from running correctly. This is probably the reason if Factorio only shows Running in Steam for a few seconds, then quits or crashes. No loading screen is displayed and no new log file generated. If that is the case for you then check that Factorio was not blocked by your AV/Security software. Also try disabling any software that is gaming-related, e.g. software for overclocking or software that shows OSD screens (FPS counter) ingame.

Software that has been reported to be (at least partially) incompatible:

• Razer Synapse (read this post)
  
• Trend Micro AV / Security (read this post)
  
• Comodo AV / Security (add Factorio as an "Exclusion")

If you find other software that Factorio won't work with (Factorio starts working when you close it but doesn't launch anymore after you re-enable it) then comment on this thread.
