How quickly do turrets go through ammo on space ships?
I can't find anything online as to how much ammo I should produce per second on my space platforms that go to other planets (from Nauvis). Do I need 1/s, 2/s, 10/s?

Assuming gun turrets, they have a base shooting speed of 10 per second, since the magazines have 10 shots the base rate is 1 per second per turret if they are shooting non-stop and you have not researched "Weapon shooting speed".

At max level of the technology, you get +150% shooting speed for gun turrets, so the rate increases to 25 shots per second or 2.5 magazines per second, per turret and when constantly firing.

Since the rate and speed of asteroids are dependent on the platform's speed and in turn the amount of turrets required to be safe varies, it's hard to say an exact number for how much you need to be producing.

Speed and platform's width are such huge factors, it's hard to answer. Plus we can only presume you're using yellow ammo, but your phys damage tech level changes everything. That's an infinite tech. You can divide your ammo use by 5 or 10 just with that.

Reasonable speed, reasonable width, 2 mags per sec should be more than enough. But then what's reasonable for me may not be for you.

Like all the others mentioned it is hard to answer without exact numbers.

If you wanna make sure you dont run out of ammo you can calculate a bit to get some rough numbers.

Each Turet will show you its shoting speed. devide that by 10 to get magazin consumption per second at full load.

If you produce that much you at least did all you can.
Then start with just one thruster to go slow and safe. make sure to defend all sides of your platform and track your magazincount on the belt feeding the turets.

If you know how to use the train interface the platform uses to fly to the planets you could make sure it flys back to the starting planet when bullets run low as there are no dangerous asteroids that can damage your platform.

If you want some more tips on how to make it safely to the first planet you can add me cause i dont wanna spoiler to much in here and it is way easier if i can see what you working with

Wait so can interplanetary asteroids hurt my ship or not? If they can, then wouldn't I want to wait until I'm full on bullets before traveling between planets?

Beyond nauvis, asteroids that can damage your platform start to spawn, with more dangerous ones after the initial 3 new planets and massive ones after the last planet.

Any asteroid bigger than chunks (the ones that collectors can grab) will damage your platform on collision, it is part of the point of having turrets in the first place.

exactly. bigger asteroids can start damaging your ship. so waiting and stockpiling is definately a good idea. but you will also get more resources once you travel frequently. At some point you may even have to keep your platform in motion to not run low on essential resources.
If you are unsure if your platform is ready just save and try it out. nothing wrong with loading your savefile from time to time
